Acura TLX 2021 (Type S): the new generation of the sports sedan.

The Acura TLX premium sports sedan, which has been sold around the world since 2014, has not gained much fame, although it looked more than worthy against competitors, including BMW’s «triplets».

In 2021, a Honda subsidiary will sell a qualitatively different car under the name TLX 2021, but with the retained DNA of the first generation.

There will also be a «charged» version of the Type S, which promises to be the «fastest sedan» in Acura’s history and boast benchmark handling.

Review

The company really went for a radical modernization of the model, replacing it with everything from the platform to the engines.

The new version became longer and wider, the wheelbase and wheel track increased (+30 and +41 mm front/rear), and the distance of «prestige» between the front body pillars and the axle received additional 198 mm.

New parameters of Japanese sedan Acura TLX 2021:

wheelbase — 2870 mm. (+94 mm.)

The handling of the vehicle will be influenced not only by the new dimensions, but also by a new suspension, which the model received together with the new «bogie».

The McPherson struts will be replaced by double wishbones, while the rear will remain multilever with the possibility of putting adaptive shock absorbers for a surcharge.

In addition, an inch more wheels (18″), and the brakes get electromechanical booster, similar to that installed on the Acura NSX supercar!

Body

The front end weight increase due to greater length has not happened, as the 2021 model year Acura TLX will be equipped with aluminum fenders and hood.

The new body itself can now boast of much greater strength by reinforcing the central tunnel area and installing additional braces in the front and rear.

The car’s exterior has become more ‘angry’, the radiator grille has changed its pentagonal shape, and the new front bumper with increased air intakes should increase downforce.

The rear end also got a new design, including a new bumper, where the license plate platform was moved to.

Interior

The completely redesigned interior turned out to be more spacious and with new trim materials. Added to this is the exceptional build quality and very original layout of the front console.

The intricate central part perfectly blends with the new design of the multirole, as well as the analog «dashboard».

Japanese deliberately did not put virtual dials in its place, although placed between the classic circles 8-inch color screen trip computer.

Another 10.2-inch display is installed in the center of the torpedo, and it is controlled with the help of True Touchpad, located on the central tunnel.

Technical features

Atmospheric engines are a thing of the past: now the Acura TLX will show their hot temper with the help of turbo engines, and the base version will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit rated at 276 hp. (380 Nm).

For the modification of Acura TLX Type S sedan prepared more powerful engine — 3.0-liter «turbo-six», whose power reaches 360 hp. (torque — 480 Nm).

The new motors — a new transmission: now in the Japanese sports sedan will work 10-speed «automatic», which you can control with the help of paddles.

In the base Acura TLX 2021 year will offer a front-wheel drive chassis, and in expensive versions — the most advanced version of the system SH-AWD, with individual clutches for each of the rear wheels.

Acura TLX Type S: the brand’s hottest sedan

The sporty Type S debuted a bit later than the classic, for its refinement and improvement took more time, because the nameplate Type S, which was revived after 11 years, requires serious changes.

So, the sports sedan Acura TLX Type S has got a 3-liter turbo V6 engine (360 hp and 480 Hm) and the latest 10-speed «automatic» which is capable of immediately jump up and down through four gears.

Acceleration to 100 km/h is not yet known.

But the power part is only cherry on the cake, the main thing in Acura is the chassis.

The track is widened and the braking system from the Honda NSX supercar with 4-piston Brembo mechanisms which can brake 20-inch discs with Pirelli P-Zero tires with maximum efficiency.

The sedan also gets Honda’s famous SH-AWD all-wheel-drive transmission with rear-wheel-drive capability and sport tuning.

The system can transfer up to 70% of the power to the rear axle, and remarkably, all this traction can be directed to a single wheel.

Will it return to Russia?

The new Acura TLX 2021 model year is still probing demand on the U.S. market, where it is already offered in its base Base version for $3,825,000.

The cost of the most expensive Type S variant starts from a mark 50000 dollars.

The official arrival of the model in Russia is not yet discussed, as Acura has officially left the Russian market, nevertheless you can order the car from the U.S., though you will have to pay extra for the duty.
