In 2020, a company from Ingolstadt has every chance of selling more than all hatchbacks. Why? Audi A3 Sportback changed generation, at the same time switched to the advanced MQB trolley, received a new body and interior, one of the best in its class.
So, while everyone is hitting the 8th generation of the Golf, for the most unsuccessful performance of recent years, the A3 may gain the lion’s share of the market.
Specifications
Such a serious statement is for the most part related to the transition to a new platform. It would seem, so what? The fact is that MQB is not only a universal modular cart, which is easy to electrify and change dimensions.
Its main feature is cheapness. Making cars on it is more profitable. And transferring the entire lineup to it, the margin grows significantly.
Therefore, the Audi A3 Sportback 2020 model year will take the market not so much with excellent technology, seasoned with German quality, but with a competitive price tag (the price tag will remain within the same range, but the list of equipment will grow).
Finishing the theme of the trolley, it is worth mentioning that the suspension will differ depending on the configuration.
In front, everyone will have a classic MacPherson performance, but in the back the subcompacts will receive a semi-independent beam, and for powerful variations, a multi-link will be offered.
The charged variation can be supplemented by an adaptive sports suspension, where the clearance will decrease by 15 mm, and the electronics will be complemented by smart settings. A branded all-wheel drive Quattro will also be as options.
Finally, let’s move on to the motor range. What specific units the Russian market will receive is not yet clear.
There are three options in the list:
«Green» 1.0-liter turbo engine on gasoline with a return of 110 hp;
the second petrol unit is already at 1.5 liters with a power of 150 hp;

Interestingly, the Audi A3 Sportback did not adhere to trends and there is no talk of any electrification, although it is clear that this is a matter of time. Subsequent restylings will have to be diluted with something.
The drivetrain is also nothing innovative. The same 6-speed manual or robot with two clutch discs. Initially, only front-wheel drive.
The list of systems that will be available already in the database is quite impressive.
It is stated that the Audi A3 in 2020 will receive:

Appearance
The new body is also one of the important criteria for choosing a car. In the past 5 years, Audi, in principle, has rolled this criterion to the maximum. Finding something more stylish is far from always possible.
Audi A3, as well as a similar sedan, received, although recognizable, but a new front end, dimensions, corrected the silhouette and decor of the rear.
The main feature is the shape of the optics, which has replaced a strict rectangular shape with “teeth”. There is also a 6-sided false grate with wide, slightly flattened honeycombs and a wide hood, which immediately rolls onto the headlights.
On the side, a new form of the glass “frame”, rear pillars and a redesigned roof slope is noticeable. A neat rear wing descends to the stern, the dimensions are smeared over almost the entire fifth door, and exhaust tips are built into the architecture of the bumper.
Interestingly, with the change of platform, the hatch got better in length and width by 30 mm, but the wheelbase and height remained in place.
Salon
But inside, not everything is so smooth. After the presentation, many did not like the architecture of the new torpedo. In particular, massive baffles loaded from above, but this is perhaps the only drawback.
The rest of the Audi remained devoted to themselves, excellent assembly, well-chosen materials, playing in dark tones, sports seats, a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and rich multimedia — a formula that has been working for more than a dozen years.

Price and sales start date
One of the strengths of 4 generations is the price. The basic version of the hatch will cost up to 30 thousand euros (only European prices are announced, our dealers are still silent).
So, a complete set with a liter engine can be picked up for 1.87 million, diesel two-liter generation for 2.09 million, and a petrol 1.5-liter Sportback will cost 2.02 million rubles.
Sales in Europe will start in May this year, and the car should reach us at the end of 2020, the beginning of 2021.
