Chrysler Airflow EV 2024. Chrysler is preparing a novelty: the crossover will be a competitor to the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y.

The American brand’s parkettes are supposed to hit the market in 2024. It will be based on Airflow EV concept.

The performance of Chrysler brand in the U.S. has been declining for the past five years. Thus, at the end of the «covid» 2020, Americans bought 110,464 cars of the brand, which is 13% less than the year before.

This year, the decline continues: in the first three quarters, Chrysler cars sold 74,139 units across the country, down 2.3 percent from January-September 2020.

Of course, such results can be explained not only by the current crisis.

The fact is that the American brand now has only two aging models in its lineup — the big 300 sedan and the Pacifica minivan.

Perhaps, it is safe to say that the brand, which belongs to Stellantis, is in the list of those who urgently need a novelty to stay «afloat».

However, the management of the automobile giant is not in a hurry: as it became known earlier, in 2022 and 2023, Chrysler should not expect anything new from it.

Nevertheless, the concern doesn’t exclude the American brand from its strategy: a new Chrysler car will likely be released in 2024.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares hinted at this during his Software Day speech.

Here, he also noted that the previously unveiled Chrysler Airflow EV concept was more than just a show car.

This probably means that the company will produce a production car based on it. Apparently, this particular electric car will appear in three years.

It is assumed that the novelty will leave the name Airflow: the company applied for this trademark in 2019 and 2021.

The brand has used this name before: four- and two-door cars were produced in the period from 1934 to 1937.

In total, less than 30,000 copies were produced. Now the name can be revived and will be given to the electric car, judging by all appearances.

The production car based on the Airflow EV concept is expected to compete with a pair of other American electric cars: the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y.

Sales of Ford’s parkette started in the U.S. late last year, while Tesla’s model appeared in early 2020.

According to the Carsalesbase website, the first crossover during the first three quarters of 2021 sold 18,855 units, and the second during the same period was bought by 121,229 customers.

Earlier it was supposed that the «electric crossover» Chrysler will be based on STLA Large platform, but now foreign media believe that the novelty will be based on STLA Medium platform.

It is assumed that the cars on this bogie will be equipped with batteries with a capacity from 87 to 104 kW*h, and their maximum range will be about 700 km. It is not excluded that the new Chrysler will have all-wheel drive versions, i.e. with a twin-engine setup.

As it became known this fall, the «ancient» Chrysler 300 is not going to be retired yet: the car will stay on the conveyor for at least 2022 model year.

During the recent update, the sedan was reduced in options, packages, and trimmed in colors, while the engines remained the same.

Note that sales of this car have increased this year: dealers sold 14,631 units in the first three quarters, 26.6 percent more than a year earlier.
