Geely Okavango 2021: full-size crossover in versions with five- and seven-seater salons.

The already extensive range of budget Chinese crossovers has been replenished with a new model — Geely Okavango 2021, known in the domestic market as Geely HaoYue. A full-size car with a five-seater saloon will be delivered overseas with a seven-seater layout.

According to the latest data, the manufacturer Geely Automobile is positioning the flagship crossover as a comfortable and safe family car, suitable for everyday use and outdoor activities.

As far as we know, the body design of the novelty has remained the same, while the technical and operational characteristics have been thoroughly refined. The new model in the front projection is identified by the vertical columns of LED running lights.

Exterior

The restyling of the Okavango model of 2021 had practically no effect on the appearance. In sight:

• a new body with a dynamic tilt of the panoramic windshield and a short boot lid decorated with side ribbed reliefs;

• triple chrome-plated perimeter of a coarse mesh of a compact radiator crate;

• blocks of LED or top-end matrix optics supplemented with energetic strokes of running lights.

The design of the front end also attracts attention with the rounded sidewalls of the protruding bumper, the large format of the lower air intake and the sporty configuration of the diffusers equipped with fog lights.

As a frontal decoration, chrome strips, details of an aerodynamic stepped relief and a matte silver texture of the body kit protective panel are used.

The classic crossover layout also dominates the sidewall design. In stock:

• massive roof rails slightly inclined to the stern of the panoramic roof;

• chrome-plated semi-perimeter and black pillars of three sectional windows;

• angular mirrors and muscular wheel arches complemented by protective liners.

The composition contains elements of longitudinal stepped relief, protective sill covers and original designed wheel disks.

Judging by the photo, there are no design delights in the layout of the rear side of the body. The package includes a rear window, complemented by a spoiler, interesting shape and graphics of the lamps, branding and cross-sections of the tailgate.

The bumper includes a compact plastic body kit, anti-fog optics and an air diffuser.

Interior

Already in the first generation Geely Okavango 2021 acquired the technical and electronic equipment typical of a model of a higher price level. The novelty demonstrates several options for fabric or leather interior trim, high information content of instrumentation, professional ergonomics of seats.

• The design of the easy-to-grip sports multifunction steering wheel provides a full view of the analog-digital or top-end virtual instrument cluster.

• The activation functions of the passenger compartment equipment are asymmetrically distributed between the multifunction steering wheel buttons and the media-command display in the center console.

• The dashboard includes a block of ventilation and heating deflectors and a compact panel with analog switches and ports for connecting digital peripherals.

The equipment for the low and wide tunnel is responsible for controlling the transmission, setting up the multimedia complex and placing the comfort-forming organizers.

The two-piece armrest also serves as a cover for the volumetric refrigerating chamber.
Advanced electronics are responsible for driving safety, including traffic monitoring systems, all-round video cameras, parking sensors and much more.

Front seats with imitation of lateral support are comfortable enough even for long trips. Additional equipment includes heating and ventilation circuits, an extended list of operational settings and adjustable head restraints.

The second row seats offer a reclining backrest, the third row offers the possibility of partial dismantling to increase the luggage compartment volume from 1,035 liters to 2,050 liters.

Specifications

The outer dimensions of Gili Okavango 2021 in the ratios of 4835 x 1900 and 1780 mm are copied from the prototype — Geely Haoyue — without significant changes, as are the parameters of the CMA platform from Volvo. Center base length 2815 mm, clearance height 190 mm.

The structural properties of the chassis include a combination of MacPhersonian front, torsion bar or multi-link rear suspension, increased efficiency of running stabilizers and safety systems.

In the domestic market, the crossover is equipped with a tandem of a 1.8TD turbocharged four with an output of 184 hp / 300 Nm and a 7-band 7DCT automated front-wheel drive transmission.

The test drive did not find any significant discrepancies in the declared characteristics and the results of independent sea trials. The dynamics of acceleration and running modes comply with European standards.

The European version will receive an all-wheel drive, so-called mild hybrid, propulsion system with an additional electric motor with a total capacity of 190 hp. and with a torque of 300 Nm.

Options and prices

In the domestic Chinese market, the new Jili Okavango 2021 model year is presented in the base and top versions. In ruble terms, the price of a crossover can vary in the range of 1.4-1.7 million.

Sales start in Russia

If the issue of supplying the crossover to the domestic market is resolved positively, the release date in Russia will be announced at the end of the autumn season. According to experts, high demand should not be expected due to the lack of all-wheel drive.

Competing models

The main contender for competitor status is the Toyota Highlander. The approximate list also includes full-length counterparts: GAC GS8, Changan CS95 and Roewe RX 8.
