The Hyundai Kona Electric crossover debuted in two versions.

The Hyundai Kona SUV is an alter ego of Crete. A bright and unusual 4.2-meter-long car made its debut last year and is intended for those markets where they have never heard of Creta.

That is, primarily for Europe, the United States and South Korea. It is not surprising that it was Kone who got the role of the relatively affordable and massive Hyundai electric car in the Old World.

There is no question of conquering any off-road, because the Hyundai Kona Electric SUV has a drive only to the front axle.

On the other hand, from the very beginning, there are two versions to choose from, which differ in engine power and the capacity of a lithium-polymer traction battery.

The basic version has a 135 hp engine. and 395 Nm. A 39.2 kWh battery provides a range of up to 300 km on the WLTP cycle, a full charge from a conventional outlet takes six hours and ten minutes, and from a 100-kilowatt terminal, 80% of the reserve can be replenished in 54 minutes. Acceleration to 100 km / h — 9.3 s, top speed — 167 km / h.

The Long Range version is heavier armed. The electric motor produces 204 hp, although the peak traction is the same as that of the base SUV (395 Nm). A battery with a capacity of 64 kWh should be enough for 470 km, but the discharged car will have to be kept at the outlet for nine hours and forty minutes. Although charging 80% of the “fast” terminal lasts the same 54 minutes. This Kona is more dynamic (7.6 s to “hundreds”), but the maximum speed is the same (167 km / h).

Externally, the electric versions differ from the “hydrocarbon” ones in other bumpers, a stylized plug instead of a radiator grill, and also wheels with large spokes, which create less twists. Significantly redesigned interior. Kona Electric has a two-level central tunnel: at the bottom there is a box for small things, and at the top there is a push-button transmission control panel and cup holders. In addition, instead of the classic instruments, a seven-inch display with painted scales is installed. And paddle shifters are responsible for changing the intensity of recovery.

Interestingly, the trunk of the electric version, due to the lack of a fuel tank, turned out to be even slightly larger than that of gasoline and diesel crossovers: 373 liters under the shelf against 361 liters. Although if you place a standard box for a charging cable in it, then the volume will be reduced to 332 liters.

Alas, the price of electric Kony has not yet been announced. But SUVs will almost certainly be more expensive than the Hyundai Ioniq Electric liftback, which is equipped with a 120-horsepower electric motor and costs at least 31,600 euros in Germany.
