Kia Carens 2022.

Kia has stopped hiding its sister Seltos crossover Carens: not much time left before the premiere.

A full-scale presentation of the new SUV-style van will be held next week.

The first market for the model will be India, where it is expected to be offered with the same engines as related Seltos.

Kia announced its three-row novelty a few days ago, distributing a blacked-out video teaser.

Now the design is almost fully revealed: branded sketches have been published. The model name Carens has been revived, the first ones to receive it are Indian residents.

Recall that the former compact van with the same name left the global market in 2018, having been on the conveyor for almost twenty years and managed to change three generations.

Kia considers the new Carens to be a Recreational Vehicle, that is, a «recreational vehicle».

The company also noted that the model is styled like an SUV, that is a crossover car. For «crossover» are responsible black plastic bodykit around the perimeter and rails on the roof.

Other features of the exterior — separate LED running lights in the form of broken «game» (located below the headlights are also diode), a rather aggressive bumpers and rear lights of unusual shape, which are also combined with a red stripe.

Inside — a multimedia system with 10.25-inch touchscreen. And the Carens must have got a virtual dashboard, though one can’t see it on the picture. Media say the crossover will be offered with seven or six-seat saloon.

According to preliminary data, the nearest relative of Indian Carens is a crossover model Kia Seltos.

It is considered that the novelty is bigger than a parkette: not only length is stretched, but also wheelbase. Indicators of local Seltos are 4315 and 2610 mm, respectively.

Engine range crossover will share with sister parkette, but allegedly not completely: Carens predicted gasoline «atmospheric» 1.5 and diesel of similar volume, on the SUV both produce 115 hp.

Kia Seltos is still available with a petrol «turbo four» 1.4 T-GDI rated at 140 hp.

Ten years on, Kia is releasing a new generation of Carens that has morphed from a compact minivan into a crossover model.

Today, the company has published the first images of exterior and interior of the new model, while the full debut is expected next week, on December 16.

In 1999, Kia launched the Carens compact van (Rondo in the U.S. and Australia), then only the beginning of the fashion for small family minivans, but now the fashion for crossovers.

Guided by the same principles, Kia revives the model, only in the guise of a parkette.

The exterior design reminds us of the older innovations of the brand, the front and rear optics undoubtedly uses the style of the Kia Sportage 5th generation, but we can see that designers still tried to give originality.

In the cabin, the double screen consisting of the dashboard and the central display of the infotainment system catches the eye at once. There is a drawing with patterns on a pedestal for a passenger.

There’s also a classic automatic transmission lever, as well as analog buttons to control the climate control and a place for wireless charging.

No technical details have been revealed, it is assumed that the Kia Carens 2022 model year will be equipped with classic gasoline and diesel engines.

One of them could be the 1.5-liter unit from the compact Kia Seltos.
The premiere will take place on 16 December, where all details will be revealed.
