What will please the new minivan and how it will look.

The KIA Sedona, known outside of North America as the Carnival, is finally having a chance to succeed in the minivan segment. Independent designer Josh Byrnes from Carscoops portal has presented a render of the new 2021 model year, which was created based on the latest spy photos.

Unlike most high MPVs, the Sedona has a lowered suspension that not only gives the car a stylish look but also improves driving dynamics. Depending on trim level, there will be two skins available, as well as an off-road package that includes a plastic body kit and silver accents.

The Sedona’s front styling is progressive, with a re-interpretation of the tiger-nose grille now incorporating a semi-floating LED headlight structure. The upper sides of the vehicle look sharp and stylish, while the panoramic sunroof creates a floating roof effect.

The rear of the minivan features sleek full-width LED lights, a large tailgate and a scalloped lower bumper. Some modifications of the model will also feature black lower sections and contrasting silver accents.

As reported by Carscoops, KIA is aiming to compete with the competition with the luxurious interior of the 2021 Sedona, which looks more like Mercedes-Benz than the minivan segment.

The huge digital instrument cluster seamlessly transitions into a touchscreen infotainment interface, over a textured aluminum trim and climate controls.

The interior also features high-quality plastics, contrasting Nappa leather and polished trim inserts.
The minivan is expected to receive heated and ventilated seats for the first and second rows, wireless charging, WiFi connectivity, a surround-view monitor, a premium Harman / Kardon audio system, and rear-seat entertainment.

Driver assistance technologies.

The 2021 KIA Sedona will include Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Alert, Cross Traffic Avoidance, Lane Change Assist, Safe Exit Assist and Rear Passenger Warning.

Some reports suggest the Sedona could use a 276bhp 3.3-liter V6. and a 2.2-liter CRDi turbodiesel. Other sources indicate that the minivan will be equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline engine from the new Sorento, which is likely, since the Sedona will be based on the platform of the «fellow». It will also allow the minivan to use a hybrid setup based on a 1.6-liter 227-horsepower internal combustion engine with four-wheel drive and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The emergence of a powerful plug-in hybrid variant (PHEV) is not excluded.

Kia Carnival — remember this car? In Russia, sales of these minivans were curtailed back in 2010 due to low demand. But under the name Kia Sedona, Korean monocabs in a long wheelbase version are still on sale in the United States, and a new, third generation car will debut at the upcoming New York Auto Show.

Sedona has hardly changed in size (5156 mm in length, 1984 mm in width, 1740 mm in height), but it has seriously changed in appearance. The predatory glance of the headlights, the radiator grille shield, the lean sidewalls, the swift window sill line: what a contrast to the old puffy minivan created even before Peter Schreier came!

The front panel is inspired by the Kia Optima and Quoris business sedans, with the Koreans promising similar finishing materials. The basic Sedona will be eight-seater, but for a surcharge, instead of a three-seater «bench» of the second row, you can order two separate chairs — heated and retractable leg support. The seats themselves are now slightly taller than the previous model, and with a 36mm (3,056mm) wheelbase and more vertical sidewalls, the cabin is slightly more spacious.

Among the options are leather upholstery of the seats, all-round cameras, an advanced multimedia system and an electric drive of the fifth door, which opens on the signal of a transponder key, like in the new Hyundai Sonata sedan — an antenna built into the stern recognizes if the key is near the trunk for more than three seconds.

The front-wheel drive platform, according to Koreans, is completely new. Its architecture remains the same, but the rear multi-link suspension is now attached to a separate subframe, and already in the «base» there are shock absorbers with amplitude-dependent characteristics. The body is 76% made of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels.

Only one power unit has been prepared for the American market: a V6 3.3 (276 hp) gasoline engine of the Lambda family with direct injection and a six-speed automatic. But for other markets, the Koreans will certainly prepare more economical engines: for example, in South Korea, the former Carnival is also sold with a 2.2 turbodiesel.

The new Kia Sedona will appear at American dealers in the fall. But we can only dream of this car: we have a ridiculous demand for full-size minivans — in 2013, 2,221 cars were sold.

And Kia has not yet decided to supply us with even the new generation Carens compact van, which has been produced since last year.
