Land Rover Discovery 2021: restyling of the fifth generation model.
Four years have passed since the debut of the fifth generation Land Rover Discovery SUV, and therefore the release of the restyled model was only a matter of time.

As a result, all the details about the upgraded car became known on November 10. Discovery has slightly changed in appearance, got more modern electronics and received a new line of engines of the Ingenium family with MHEV technology.

Whether these improvements are enough to eliminate the emerging negative trend in sales of the model, it will become clear after the cars appear in dealerships.

Acceptance of orders for the new Land Rover Discovery 2021 is already open. In the UK, the new product is offered at a price of 53,655 pounds (5.4 million rubles), in the US — from 54 thousand dollars.

The restyled Discovery 5 will reach Russia in the spring of 2021 with two 3.0-liter «sixes» — petrol and diesel. Prices and equipment will be announced closer to the start of sales of the SUV.

Body design

The appearance of the model, as already noted, has changed minimally. There are new LED headlights with brighter running light stripes, a revised grille with a different mesh structure and slightly revised bumpers.

The front fender inserts have ceased to be contrasting, and the wheel arches have housed discs with new design options.

Optionally, the new Discovery is equipped with matrix optics with animated direction indicators. An R-Dynamic package is also available, which gives the car more aggressive bumpers and bodywork in Gloss Black.

Equipment

In the interior of the SUV, the main metamorphoses are associated with the center console. It now sports a large 11.4-inch display for the Pivi Pro multimedia system.

The infotainment complex has a user-friendly interface with an optimized menu structure that allows you to quickly access any data. The media center has two LTE-modems, a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot with the ability to connect up to eight devices, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces, and support for software updates «over the air».

At the base of the console there is a platform for wireless charging of smartphones, and just above there is a new climate control unit with two rotating washers.

There are other new things too. The dashboard, for example, with the same screen size of 12.3 inches, boasts better graphics. Part of the data is displayed on a full-color head-up display.

Discovery’s steering wheel is also new — with four spokes, metal paddle shifters and hidden buttons that aren’t visible until they light up. The automatic transmission selector washer on the center tunnel has been replaced by a neat electronically controlled lever. The number of buttons around has been reduced.

The developers paid special attention to the rear seats. The main innovation here is the ventilation deflectors moved to the back of the armrest box (previously they were located on the central pillars and the ceiling).

Longer cushions and improved lateral support also increase the seating comfort. Holders for attaching tablets are installed on the backs of the front seats.

After restyling, the Land Rover Discovery 5 remained a versatile vehicle, perfectly suited for transporting people and luggage. The maximum cargo volume reaches 2391 liters, and with a seven-seater layout at the rear, up to 258 liters of luggage can be stored.

An intelligent seat folding system and an electric fifth door with a swing of the foot function make loading and unloading operations as easy as possible.

Specifications of Land Rover Discovery 2021

The motor range of the SUV has been completely revised. The old V6 units were excluded from the lineup and were replaced by in-line “six” of the Ingenium family. The updated list of modifications looks like this:

• P300 — 2.0-liter petrol «four» (300 hp, 400 Nm);

• P360 — 3.0-liter petrol «six» (360 hp, 500 Nm);

• D250 — 3.0-liter L6 diesel (249 hp, 570 Nm);

• D300 — 3.0-liter L6 diesel (300 hp, 650 Nm).

All six-cylinder engines are complemented by the MHEV system with a 48-volt starter-generator. The eight-speed «automatic» is the uncontested box.

Conventional spring suspension is no longer available to Discovery — only air suspension and adaptive dampers. The permanent all-wheel drive has been redesigned to optimize the torque distribution. Terrain Response 2 features a new Wade Mode for deep fording.
