Lincoln Zephyr 2022.

The new Lincoln Zephyr continues the brand’s sedan dynasty.
In its home country of America, Lincoln no longer sells sedans:

the local range now consists only of crossovers and SUVs.

China is another matter, where buyers still willingly take cars. Therefore, a new sedan Lincoln Zephyr was developed for the local market, which premiere took place at the auto show in Guangzhou.

The name Zephyr is historical for Lincoln — it was the name of the «junior» model from 1936 to 1942.

Then Lincoln Zephyr appeared in the range only in 2005, but already in 2006 this car was given an index MKZ.

So now is the third appearance of the Zephyr. And this is the first Lincoln sedan, which production will be set up in China — at the facilities of joint venture Changan Ford.

Lincoln Zephyr is developed mainly by Chinese scientific and technical center, though with attraction of specialists from Ford’s California bureau.

The closest relative of the new sedan became the crossover-liftback Ford Evos, which recently entered the Chinese market. The platform is unified with the Focus, though stretched and reinforced.

So the Zephyr has a transverse engine arrangement, front-wheel drive, McPherson suspension at the front and multilever at the back.

In terms of dimensions, the newcomer falls in the same class as the Lexus ES and Volvo S90 cars: length — 4982 mm, width — 1865 mm, height — 1485 mm. Between the axles — 2930 mm.

It is possible to choose «quiet» or «sporty» design, the wheels diameter of 18 or 19 inches.

Together with the parking lights, a diode strip on the grille and emblem illumination is switched on.

The interior of the sedan is unified with Evos: the front panel has a 12.3-inch dash screen and a huge 1.1 m wide touchscreen media system (27 inches diagonal), which can be divided into thematic zones.

The Sync 4 multimedia itself has voice control and over-the-air updates.

In keeping with Lincoln brand tradition, buttons on the front panel are responsible for controlling the transmission.

And the climate control panel with swaying handles, on the contrary, is located on the central tunnel.

Other features include a two-spoke steering wheel with touch buttons, advanced contour lighting (128 colors) and two sunroofs instead of a panoramic roof.

The CoPilot-360 adaptive cruise control meets the second level of autonomy.

As for the powertrain, it is typical for the Chinese market. Lincoln Zephyr has a two-liter turbo EcoBoost engine (246 hp, 376 Nm) and an eight-speed automatic.

With such weapons, the sedan can accelerate to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Neither hybrid, nor electric versions are spoken about.

Sales in China will start in the first quarter of 2022, prices are already known: from 40 to 54 thousand dollars.

And after that, the pair Ford Evos/Lincoln Zephyr will have a third relative — a new sedan Ford Mondeo, which will also be a purely Chinese product.
