Maserati Grecale 2022.

Maserati is preparing a crossover more compact than the Levante: the first photos of the new Grecale model.

At the end of May 2021, the head of the Stellantis alliance, Carlos Tavares, and the chairman of the board of directors, John Elkann, visited the Maserati plant in Modena, Italy.

Here, top managers were introduced to the Maserati Grecale crossover in development, named after the wind in the Mediterranean.

Interestingly, Tavares volunteered to ride a prototype model, and photos from this test drive were posted online.

The pictures show the car in motley camouflage, but you can still draw some conclusions regarding its design.

So, the front off-road vehicle attracts attention with the proprietary grin of the radiator grille and compact headlights (like on the Maserati MC12 supercar).

The test car also has conventional doors with glass frames, but instead of the usual handles for a natural grip, they have recessed handles.

The Maserati Grecale is being developed on the Georgio rear-wheel drive platform, familiar from the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio models. It is expected that the car will be slightly larger than the Levante crossover.

From the aforementioned Alfa Romeo models, the novelty will receive a top-end 2.9-liter V6 engine with two turbines. Plus it will have hybrid and all-electric versions.

The Maserati Grecale is due to be officially unveiled by the end of two thousand twenty-one. The crossover will be produced at the FCA plant in Cassino, Italy. 800 million euros will be invested in the modernization of this enterprise.

Maserati has published images of a camouflaged prototype of the Grecale SUV, which was personally driven by the head of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares.

Maserati Grecale in the future should become a competitor to the Porsche Macan with engines up to 510 hp.

The SUV features a squat silhouette with a long hood and a gently sloping roofline. In addition, it received a branded radiator grille, narrow LED optics and muscular wheel arches.

The technical characteristics of the Grecale have not yet been disclosed, but it is known that the new product will take a place in the lineup one step below the Levante crossover.

It is assumed that Grecale will share its design with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and can borrow the engine range from it.

At the same time, the list of Grecale power units will be very wide — from a two-liter «turbo-four» to 284 hp. to the top-end 2.9-liter V6 that powers the charged Quadrifoglio range.

This unit develops up to 510 hp. and accelerates the charged crossover Alfa Romeo Stelvio to 100 km / h in just 3.8 seconds.

In addition, the Maserati Grecale will get an all-electric modification, but it will be presented the last in 2022.

Production of gasoline Grecale should start closer to the end of this year, although earlier Maserati promised to completely declassify the crossover in the spring.
