Mitsubishi Outlander 2022: new design and unification with the X-Trail.

The Mitsubishi Outlander crossover has been in the third generation for nine whole years, but this year, the new generation car will finally debut. Moreover, it is very different from its predecessor, because after the redemption of part of the Mitsubishi Motors shares by the Renault-Nissan alliance, it was decided to transfer the Outlander to “Nissan” equipment.

Now the model is based on the CMF-C / D platform, and its closest relative is the latest Rogue / X-Trail.

The main market for the novelty will be North America (Canada and the USA). It is here that the «fourth» Outlander of the Japanese assembly will appear in the first place — sales will start in April at a price of $ 25,795 (1.9 million rubles). Buyers will be able to choose between ES 2.0, SE 2.0 and SEL 2.0 trim levels, and there are also special Launch Edition welcome editions.

As for the Russian prospects, we will start selling the new Mitsubishi Outlander only after localization at the plant in Kaluga. Accordingly, cars will not reach dealerships until 2022.

New body design

The exterior of the crossover is still decided in the corporate style of Dynamic Shield, but the front part has changed noticeably. Following the example of the junior SUVs ASX and Eclipse Cross, the new Outlander has got multi-tiered optics.

The main headlight units are placed in the side niches of the bumper, and separate narrow sections with running lights and direction indicators are made on top. This arrangement supposedly provides better visibility from drivers and pedestrians.

Changes to the stern are also noticeable. There is a new tailgate with hexagon stamping, redesigned horizontal lights with T-shaped graphics and a revised bumper. The sides of the crossover received a different relief, and the wheel arches — more accented contours.

The size of standard disks is 18-20 inches.
For the new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander, there will be nine body colors available: six basic and three high-brightness from the Diamond series.

The list of the latter includes the exclusive Black Diamond shade — it consists of three layers, one of which, when illuminated, creates a special shine effect.

Interior

Inside, the «fourth» Outlander is a bit like the donor X-Trail, but there is no question of literal copying. The newcomer Mitsubishi has an original steering wheel and a strictly horizontal strip of deflectors on the panel.

In the lower part of the console there is a laconic climate control unit with «physical» buttons, and on the central tunnel next to it there is a transmission joystick, a washer-selector for selecting a driving mode and a compartment for wireless charging.

The multimedia screen mounted on the top of the panel is made in the format of a free-standing tablet. Its diagonal in the «senior» trim levels is nine inches, in the initial ones — seven.

The instrument cluster, depending on the equipment level, is analog (with dials and a 7 «display in the center) or fully digital (size 12.3»). The expensive versions also have a 10.8-inch projection screen.

The developers of the new model pay attention to the high quality of finishing materials, including fabric, suede and semi-aniline leather. «Soft» inserts (including those with contrasting colors) are available both on the front panel and on the door cards.

In addition to the equipment already listed, the new Mitsubishi Outlander has comfortable urethane-based front seats with heating, three-zone climate control, curtains in the rear rows, Bose acoustics with 10 speakers, remote access to on-board functionality via an application on a smartphone.

The set of electronic assistants includes MI-Pilot Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane keeping.

In the fourth generation, the crossover retained a seven-seat three-row cabin configuration. The second row seats slide longitudinally and fold in a 40:20:40 ratio, allowing you to load lengths even with two passengers.

The X-Trail shared the powertrain with the new Outlander. Gasoline aspirated 2.5 liters produces 181 hp. (245 Nm) and works in conjunction with the Jatco CVT.

Initially, the car is front-wheel drive, but there is also an S-AWC all-wheel drive transmission with a clutch on the rear axle. In addition, there is the Brake Active Yaw Control system, which controls the thrust vector by braking individual wheels.

The basic front-wheel-drive Outlander features a mode selector with five driving programs: Eco, Normal, Tarmac (Sport), Gravel and Snow. If S-AWC is available, another Mud preset is added.
