What to expect from the upcoming Nissan 400Z coupe: the successor to the outdated 370Z.

Auto Express has found out that the successor to the Nissan 370Z (in production for almost fifteen years) will be officially unveiled in 2022 and will be called the «400Z». Note that the new sports car has been in development for quite a long time.

The Japanese planned to show the car to the public in 2019, but then it was decided to postpone the debut for a year or two. Now, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the unstable situation in the market, the dates have been shifted again.

According to rumors, the appearance of the upcoming Nissan 400Z will overlap with the now classic Datsun 240Z, produced in the 70s of the last century. The sports car itself will be built on the Infiniti Q60 platform.

Consequently, it will receive a double wishbone suspension at the front and a multi-link at the rear. The sports coupe is planned to be equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine with two turbines, which will produce over 400 «horses». As for the gearbox, either a mechanic or an automatic machine can make a couple of the motor.

Compared to the donor Q60, the default drive on the new Nissan 400Z will be rear-wheel drive, although it is possible that the «charged» version of the model from the Nismo division will receive a plug-in full drive.

Plus, from the top-end modification, one should expect a motor forced up to approximately 460 forces. The main markets for the model will be Europe, North America and China, while the new product will have to compete with such models as the BMW Z4 and Toyota GR Supra.

British Autocar informs about the new expected date of the debut of the novelty. According to the publication, the successor to the Nissan 370Z will be called the 400Z. Probably, the number in the model name hints at the impact of the new engine, which will be equipped with a two-seater sports car.

The interior of the current 370Z has been criticized for its outdated design, so Nissan decided to seriously redesign it for the 400Z. According to American dealers, the interior is styled in the same style as other new models of the brand, such as the Altima and Sentra.

In addition, all next-generation Z trims will receive a modern infotainment system, while the initial versions of the model now have a storage compartment for the multimedia screen.

The new Nissan Z is expected to adapt the platform from its sister Infiniti Q50 and Q60. The sports car will probably also borrow the engine from them — an all-aluminum three-liter twin-turbo V6 of the VR family, it also includes a 3.8-liter «engine» that powers the Nissan GT-R.

The output for the next generation «two-door» has not yet been announced, but it will probably be equal to about 400 hp. So, the Q60 Red Sport has a power of 405 hp.

At the same time, such a four-wheel drive four-seater coupe weighing 1,825 kg accelerates to 100 km / h in 5 seconds. The lighter Nissan 400Z rear-wheel drive sports car is expected to deliver better performance.

Nissan may be in dire financial straits right now, but there are indications that a new Z-series sports car is still on the agenda, even if it is not going to be very popular in the future.

The company recently registered a new trademark with a revamped ‘Z’ logo as well as an updated nameplate, which allows us to believe that the successor to the aging 370Z coupe ranks high on the Japanese automaker’s priority list.

While this may not sound like a smart business idea, given the relatively low sales of Z-family vehicles, it will help improve Nissan’s overall image, which has suffered severely in recent years.
