Opel Vivaro-e 2020 — a new minibus with an electric motor for 330 km.
In the field of electrification has arrived. This time, Opel was pleased with the launch of its first all-electric Vivaro-e minibus. By the way, last year similar statements came from Peugeot and Citroën, but the Germans were ahead and would be the first to pay back the development by the fall of 2020.

What will be the new representative in a small niche and whether it is worth buying, below.

Specifications

The novelty is almost in no way inferior to its gasoline counterpart: it retains the same capacity, exclusive design, body and interior length options. At the same time, it has an optimal range, can carry up to 1275 kg and additionally take a trailer of 1000 kg in tow.

For some reason, the manufacturer decided not to talk about the wagon trolley. There is reason to believe that for the Opel Vivaro-e, the already existing ICE variant was simply upgraded, with independent MacPherson strut suspension on the front and multi-link rear.

Which is not surprising, because the design does not carry any innovative solutions, such as a mini-engine for each wheel or something like that. Before us is such a low-cost electric train, where instead of the internal combustion engine there is one electric motor that transmits traction to the front axle, and the battery pack is standardly located on the bottom, completely without infringing on the internal usable volume.

Speaking of engine and battery. The first is represented by a 136-horsepower variant, developing 260 Hm. The maximum speed was limited to 130 km / h, which most likely was done artificially in order to increase the power reserve.

The battery pack (lithium-ion) will be sold in two versions — the basic one at 50 kW * h, which will provide a range of 230 km, and the increased one — up to 75 kW * h, where the range reaches the mark of 330 km.

The 2020 Opel Vivaro van supports the quick charge feature from the station. The replenishment time of 80% of the charge will be 30 and 45 minutes, respectively, the battery capacity.

You can also safely recharge at home from a household outlet. The warranty period pleases — as much as 8 years or 160,000 mileage (the last figure is really not the best that can be offered in the commercial transportation sector).

The measurements were carried out according to the WLTP cycle. True information about the tests is scarce. It is not clear what the real range will be, for example, when loading at 500 kg. Will the range be critically reduced or limited to a couple of tens of kilometers? Unclear.

By the way, in Vivaro-e, a system of energy recovery is activated during braking and in the run phase, so that when loaded, everything will not be very bad.

Speaking of downloading. Here, the train turned out to be weaker than its diesel counterpart. 1275 kg against 1405. At the same time, the weight of the car per ton is more — 2800 against 1646 kg (the minimum body options are taken).

Regarding electronic filling, Vivaro-e will receive adaptive cruise control with artificial intelligence. Based on sensors and cameras, the system will recognize traffic signs, markings, monitor the condition of the driver, manage speed indicators, including focusing on other participants in the movement. Also in the bundle is integrated with emergency braking and a collision warning system.

Appearance

Externally, the Opel Vivaro-e is no different from its internal combustion engine analogue. The only thing that the electric van gives out is the charging flap on the left front wing, nameplates, the absence of an exhaust system and noise during movement.

In general, the body design is not much inferior to the eternal competitors in the person of Vito and Transporter. True, the new generations of the latter were more minimalistic than the product from Opel.

Nevertheless, the van is recognizable on the road, it does not have any repulsive features, it is also offered in several lengths.
Dimensions Vivaro-e:

Length, mm — 4600/4950/5300
Width, mm — 2283
Height, mm — 1971
Wheelbase (mm) — 3098

Depending on the length, the volume of the cargo compartment varies from 5.8 to 6.6 cubic meters.

Salon

It is expected that the electric torpedo has undergone some changes in comparison with the ICE version. The novelty will please with its own original design and informative dashboard, an enlarged screen of a multimedia system with support for mobile interfaces and the presence of a separate menu with data on the operation of the electric cart.

You can also notice a completely different design of the gearshift lever, built into the architecture of the central panel.
Additionally, it is reported that the van will receive touch “levers” for opening doors and will independently open the doors when the driver approaches. The latter aroused the interest of the automotive community, but there has not yet been a full presentation.

Competitors

Other brands also feel the promise of electrifying vans and are slowly marketing their options.
For example, today on sale you can find:

Nissan e-NV200 with a carrying capacity of 770 kg with a range of 280 km;
VW e-Crafter — 1750 kg / 160 km;
Renault Master Z.E. — 2,000 kg / 200 km.
Also this year we are waiting for the release of electric Vito from Mercedes-Benz.
