Polestar has shown what its fifth production model, heralded almost two years ago by the Precept concept car, will look like.

Interestingly, of the recently announced three new products, the Polestar 5 model will appear on the market later than everyone else — only in the first half of 2024.

Prior to it, the company will present a large crossover Polestar 3 and a mid-size coupe-shaped Polestar 4.

However, their development is going on without too much attention, but the first image of the «five» is already available now.

With the model Polestar 5 the company aims at Panamera. It will be a big four-door with a sloping roof, and the proportions of the body and overall design will really pass from the concept car without major changes.

The serial automobile will get familiar doors and mirrors, and some details will be corrected. In short, the Precept will reach the assembly line with minimal changes.

Specifications are still marked approximately — and only for the top version.

The rear axle will have an electric motor rated at 612 hp, the front engine output — 272 hp, that is the total power as much as 884 powers!

There is a two-stage gearbox with two clutches, and they can be simultaneously disengaged to save power.

The traction battery works with a voltage of 800 volts and will allow you to travel more than 600 km on a single charge.

Polestar 5 will be produced in China — at the plant of concern Geely in Chongqing.

This will be Polestar’s fifth electric car assembly site: other models will be built at factories in Luqiao, Chengdu and Hangzhou, as well as at the U.S. Volvo plant in South Carolina.

By 2025, the annual production volume of Polestar models is expected to grow to 290,000.

The Swedish brand Polestar in the next three years will present three new items — crossovers Polestar 3, Polestar 4 and a flagship sedan Polestar 5.

The latter will be on the market only in 2024, but it has already found its serial outlines — several teaser images have been published.

In 2017, the Polestar brand split off from its parent company Volvo, which in turn has been owned by the Chinese holding company Geely since 2010.

Now Polestar is essentially living in startup mode, with Volvo providing it only with platforms and production facilities.

Polestar has its own sales and development strategy with an emphasis on sports and environmental friendliness.

Polestar’s debut model as an independent brand in 2019 was the plug-in hybrid coupe Polestar 1, but at the end of this year its production will end and only the Chinese-built compact electric cross-liftback Polestar 2 will remain in the lineup.

In 2022 planned to premiere and start production in the U.S. flagship coupe-shaped crossover Polestar 3, built on a modular electric platform SPA2 (it will form the basis of a new big SUV brand Volvo).

The main competitor of Polestar 3 is appointed Tesla Model X, that is, it will be quite expensive and not too mass model.

After Polestar 3, tentatively in 2023, debuts a smaller and more affordable crossover Polestar 4, and in 2024 will see the light sedan Polestar 5 — the production version of the concept Polestar Precept sample of 2020, which became the forerunner of the new style brand.

If Polestar 1 and 2 can be easily confused with Volvo, Polestar 3, 4 and 5 have a more distinctive appearance — an idea of it gives published today teasers Polestar 5, inserted in the video on YouTube.

Judging by the pictures, Polestar 5 in principle does not differ from the concept Precept, but subtly changed the proportions (corrected the shape of the front pillars) and plastic front end, appeared the central body pillars, rear doors open the same way as the front, the cameras on the front doors have been replaced by conventional mirrors.

The original solution of the stern without rear window has been preserved for now.

The development of Polestar 5 is conducted in the British technology park MIRA in Naniton (Warwickshire), which belongs to the Japanese company Horiba — here, by the way, are based teams of developers of electric car startups Soventem and Viritech.

Polestar 5 will be produced in China and sold worldwide.

In October, Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said that he sees future Polestar models as competitors to Porsche electric cars — so Polestar 5 will try to take buyers away from the Porsche Taycan, although, of course, it cannot escape comparisons with the Tesla Model S.

While last year Polestar produced only about 10,000 cars, by 2025 it wants to reach 290,000 cars per year — a strong claim given that the brand is almost unknown outside of Europe.

Another ambitious goal is to introduce a fully climate-neutral electric car by 2030.
