Porsche 993 Speedster Remastered 2022. Gunther Werks atelier has stripped the roof off a fourth-generation 911 two-door.

American studio Gunther Werks has turned Porsche 993 into carbon fiber speedster.

The basis of the project was an ordinary «nine hundred eleven» fourth generation, released in the 1990s, but engineers at the studio have created custom carbon fiber body, finalized powertrain, engine and cabin.

Monterey Auto Week continues with a string of high-profile premieres. California tuning studio Gunther Werks has unveiled a restomod Porsche 993, whose renders appeared earlier this year.

Californians took a classic sports car Porsche 911 series 993 and turned it into a speedster.

The German automaker itself has never mass-produced a 911 with this type of body. Only two such cars have ever seen the light of day.

In fact, Porsche 993 Speedster in the interpretation of Gunther Werks is a modified two-door 400R.

The aerodynamic dodger was slightly modified, the rear wing became simpler, aluminum door mirrors and handles were installed.

Engineers had to work hard to retain the body strength of the original model, depriving it of a roof.

It took Gunther Werks more than three years to reinforce the chassis, create a harmonious exterior design, design a removable windshield and select all-weather resistant trim materials.

In the process of redesign, the factory body panels gave way to carbon fiber ones. To make the body stiffer, the specialists removed the back sofa, putting a booster in the vacated place.

The exterior and interior of the new speedster was also updated. Windshield here is optional: you can order cars with or without it.

The interior of the Porsche 993 appears sports bucket seats with a strong base of carbon fiber.

The same material was used in the manufacture of the steering wheel spokes, and also carbon fiber trimmed the front panel.

There is also a calibration of zero position of the steering wheel. The restomod is equipped with a 441-horsepower four-liter opposed engine from the American company Rothsport Racing.

Technically, the speedster repeats the coupe: under the hood is an atmospheric six-cylinder opposition engine, which is bored to 4.0 liters and boosted to 435 horsepower and 454 Nm of torque.

Traction is transmitted to the rear axle through a custom Getrag manual transmission.

The exhaust system is made of Inconel and printed on a 3D printer; complete the image forged disks a la Fuchs.

A six-speed manual transmission goes in tandem with it. About the dynamic abilities of the new Porsche its creators did not tell.

Considering its small weight (1,175 kilograms), we expect impressive figures. Only 25 of these stylish speedsters will be produced.

Production is scheduled to start next year. How much such a restomod will cost is still a secret.

There are no detailed pictures of the interior yet, though developers are talking about installing carbon fiber bucket seats, a new retro-style aluminum dashboard and other improvements.

Price restomod is not reported, but it is unlikely that the speedster will cost less than $ 600 thousand, in fact, 400R coupe with a hardtop now costs from 565 thousand dollars.
