Porsche Mission R: an electric race car and possibly the blueprint for a Cayman successor.

Porsche brought a concept of the Mission R electric racing car to the Munich Motor Show, the level of development of which suggests that it is likely to become a production car.

Porsche has an extensive motorsports program (only three dozen of monocups), which requires revision in the light of mass electrification and the transition to the so-called sustainable development.

The Mission R concept shows what a racing eco-friendly Porsche sports car will look like, which any strong person in body and spirit will be able to drive on the best racetracks on the planet.

Mission R is an all-wheel-drive electric coupe with a carbon fiber body.

Instead of the traditional steel tubular frame the pilot is protected by a carbon fiber «exoskeleton», and the lightly loaded elements of the outer plumage and interior are made of natural composite NFRP — plastic reinforced with linen fibers from agricultural waste.

The power plant consists of two electric motors: the peak power of the front one is 320 kW (435 hp), rear one is 480 kW (653 hp).

The combined peak output in the so-called qualifying mode is 800 kW (1,088 hp), the constant output is 500 kW (680 hp).

The maximum recuperation output is the same 800 kW. Both engines and the battery have advanced, electronically controlled oil cooling.

The Porsche Mission R reaches the first «hundred» in less than 2.5 seconds, with a top speed of over 300 km/h.

The 900-volt battery with a capacity of 82 kWh is located not in the floor, but behind the back of the pilot — thus, the Mission R is close to the Porsche 718 Cayman gasoline coupe in terms of layout and weight distribution.

The maximum charging capacity is 340 kW, it allows «feeding» the battery from 5 to 80% in just 15 minutes.

Curb weight of the sports car is about 1.5 tons. Overall length — 4326 mm, width — 1990 mm, height — 1190 mm, wheelbase — 2560 mm.

Suspension is on the double wishbones in the front and McPherson in the rear. Brake discs are 380 mm in the front (6-piston calipers) and 355 mm in the rear (4-piston calipers).

The cockpit has only one seat, for the pilot, its frame is partially made on a 3D printer.

The instrument panel is divided into two screens — one integrated in the steering wheel, the second is located above it.

To the right of the pilot’s seat there is a design hook for the helmet. In general, the level of work of the cockpit is virtuoso, rarely a racing car looks so stylish from the inside.

What will end up in the concept Mission R is still unknown — Porsche on this account, no official statements, but most likely a few years, it will become both road and racing sports car production.

We should add that Porsche plans to use its own batteries in its future electric cars, rather than taking them from a common «warehouse» concern Volkswagen.
