Skoda Slavia Spider — an open 2-seater sports car based on the Scala hatchback.
It would seem that design development is the easiest stage in designing a new car. But no, not only the appearance is important. Here it is necessary to take into account aerodynamics, the cost of stamping parts, possible demand, the conceptuality of the model range, etc., etc.

Actually, this is why Skoda decided to create their own design school, where students try themselves in the development of bodies for the Czech auto giant. And, what is more interesting, student concepts have been implemented in practice for many years now and sold in millions of copies.

This year, students have embarked on an extremely daring project. They took the Scala budget hatchback as a basis and turned it into a roadster.

And this is no longer a concept for the exhibition, but a completely finished copy, which the Czechs are planning to put into production.

Skoda Slavia Spider — this is the name given to the new product, based on the MQB-A0 platform. An independent MacPherson strut is installed in the front, a semi-independent torsion bar in the back. The only thing, in comparison with the donor hatch, is a new exhaust system with a more aggressive sound and sports calipers from the «Ereski» Octavia.

But under the hood, the roadster also does not smell. Here is the same 1.5-liter turbo four with 150 hp. paired with 7-band DSG.

Externally, the Spyder completely borrows the front end, the lower stern (up to the top of the headlights), body length and wheelbase. Unless the roadster has a chrome grille instead of matte black.

Student developments only touched the fairing with two «humps» and the rear fenders, which also compensate for the space of the 3 and 4 doors. Plus «Slavik» gets 20-inch light alloys from the Kodiak RS, instead of the native 17-inches.

Inside, you can see the donor torpedo architecture with a new steering wheel and a virtual instrument interface. On the tunnel there is an additional touchscreen for controlling the onboard functions.

Multimedia is still 6.5-inch touchscreen.
But behind the gearshift knob, the Spyder is equipped with a more massive armrest and a cup holder section. But the biggest innovation is the Sparco sports buckets made of perforated leather with white stitching.

Well, of course, there is no back row in the car. But in the trunk there are two branded electric scooters, which, as it were, emphasizes the orientation towards a young audience.

The cost of the donor model, which was never brought to Russia, is 1.3 million rubles. The roadster price and estimated production launch dates have yet to be announced.
