Suzuki is working on the Swift Cross small SUV by 2024.
The popularity of small SUVs in emerging markets has prompted many automakers to enter this segment.
A recent Best Car Web report suggests that Suzuki is planning such a variant of the next-generation Swift SUV.
Even more interesting, this new model with increased ground clearance will allegedly be based on the «charged» Swift Sport.
Earlier reports suggested that the next-generation Swift would launch sometime in 2022, even though the current model underwent a facelift in 2020.
The new Swift will reportedly be based on an improved version of the Suzuki Heartect platform.
A Swift Sport variant is expected to arrive in spring 2023 with a powertrain similar to the current hot hatch, which includes a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine and a 48-volt mild hybrid system.
It will likely have a sportier design, reflecting its performance as a «charged» hatchback and a stiffer suspension.
The same platform and drivetrain will reportedly serve as the basis for the Swift Cross, which is rumored to debut in 2024.
The novelty will likely get higher ground clearance and plastic body cladding, as well as body guards for a more adventurous look.
Perhaps the higher bodywork will also bring more practicality to the interior, which is a must for SUV buyers.
The Swift Sport’s powerful turbocharged engine seems more suited to the Swift Cross than the base model’s moderately-hybrid and atmospheric 1.2-liter unit.
The assumption that Suzuki is considering the Swift Cross sounds plausible, as such a model could bridge the gap between Suzuki’s 3,700-mm city crossover Ignis and the larger Vitara B-SUV, which measures 4,175 mm.
However, this information has not been officially confirmed yet and any outcome is possible.
