Tesla Cybertruck: electric pickup with armored vehicles.
This time Tesla decided to encroach on the holy of holies of the American market — the pickup segment. But Elon Musk’s team, as always, approached the creation of the car with a fair amount of creativity.
The engineers did not copy the traditional, almost 100-year-old architecture of the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado or Ram 1500 pickups, but went their own way. The result is impressive!
The electric Cybertruck lacks a frame, and its body is similar to a Stealth aircraft. All exterior panels are flat — and for good reason. The entire load-bearing body (the company calls it an exoskeleton) is made of ultra-high-strength steel, which is not afraid of blows with a sledgehammer and even shots from a pistol.
Flat glass is also much stronger than conventional glass. According to Elon Musk, the pickup uses the same materials that are used to create space rockets of the SpaceX project.
Tesla Cybertruck is 5885 mm long, 2027 mm wide and 1905 mm high. The cargo compartment has a hinged tailgate with a retractable lip and is covered with an electrically operated rigid sliding curtain.
The compartment length is 1981 mm, the volume under the curtain is 2.8 cubic meters, the rear window of the passenger compartment can be lowered for direct access to the cargo platform. Carrying capacity — 1588 kg.
The ATV easily gets into the body. By the way, such vehicles will now also be in Tesla’s range: at the presentation of the pickup, an electric “quadric” with a design in the spirit of Cybertruck was exposed.
In addition, the pickup has a traditional Tesla front trunk, and a couple of compartments for small loads are located in the sloped walls behind the doors: external hatches open access to them.
The pickup is equipped with adaptive air suspension with the ability to change the ride height. In the top position of the body, it reaches an incredible 406 mm, because the bottom of the electric car is almost flat.
The entry angle is 35 degrees, the exit angle is 28 degrees. At the same time, the developers promise that on the asphalt Cybertuck will take turns «like on rails.»
The range includes three modifications. Alas, while Tesla has not disclosed data on engine power and battery capacity, but boasted other parameters.
The base Cybertruck is rear-wheel drive with a single electric motor, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (97 km / h) in less than 6.5 seconds, top speed 177 km / h, mileage over 400 km on a single charge and the ability to pull a trailer weighing 3 , 4 tons.
The Dual Motor version has four-wheel drive with two electric motors. It can accelerate to 97 km / h in 4.5 seconds, has a maximum speed of 193 km / h and a cruising range of more than 480 km, and the permissible trailer weight is 4.5 tons.
Finally, the top version of Tri Motor is three electric motors (one on the front axle and two on the rear), acceleration to 97 km / h in 2.9 seconds, top speed 209 km / h, mileage over 800 km and trailer weight 6.4 tons!
For such a pickup, Tesla gave another parameter: it flies a quarter mile from a standstill in 10.8 seconds!
The Cybertruck has a six-seater saloon (up front can accommodate three) in Tesla’s usual minimalist style: there is a large central screen and no buttons.
The steering wheel in the demo photo may subsequently give way to a conventional steering wheel. Standard equipment includes an autopilot, and the pickup can be charged from DC terminals up to 250 kW.
As usual with Tesla, orders are already open, and prices have been announced.
The base Cybertruck is priced at $ 39,900, the twin-engined version is priced at $ 49,900, and the three-engined version is priced at $ 69,900. But sales will begin only at the end of 2021, and the most powerful three-engine versions will arrive in time in 2022.
