And it is not always due to necessity. Thus, relatively recently Toyota released a special version of the Land Cruiser 70, which differs from the standard redesigned radiator grille: instead of metal slats it received a plastic insert.

The front headlights are made in a retro style with rounded headlights. Similarly, the bumper has been redesigned, which has been enlarged with large fog lights.

And recently Toyota announced that it has carried out another upgrade of the Land Cruiser 70.

But this time the manufacturer was forced to modify the SUV. The matter is that since November 2022, new norms, toughening demands to safety cars will come into force in Australia.

Due to this, Toyota has increased Land Cruiser 70 side impact protection. However, the manufacturer did not disclose how the decision was achieved.

According to rumors, Toyota has strengthened the structure of the car. But it is more probable to expand the list of onboard equipment due to introduction of collision warning system.

A number of experts have expressed another assumption. According to the preliminary information, Toyota has increased LC 70 weight up to 3,5 tons.

It has been done because the new requirements do not apply to vehicles with such weight. That is Toyota has simply «pushed» the SUV beyond the limits.

We should note that the Japanese model is updated very slowly in comparison with any other automobile presented on the world market.

Thus, LC 70 has received an air conditioner only three years ago. Earlier, Toyota equipped the SUV with a cruise control.

Despite the high price (not less than $77.9 thousand), the base version of the Japanese SUV is still without power windows.

The LC70 is now available on the Australian market in three different bodies: an SUV with a five-seat interior and a pickup with a single and double cab.

There is also a special version with two-seat seating and an elongated rear end made as a van.

In addition, earlier Toyota created an electric version of the LC 70, which is still available in pieces.

The Japanese model is equipped by default with all-wheel drive and a 4.5-liter turbodiesel engine that develops 205 hp of useful power and 430 N*m of torque. This engine is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Japanese model, despite the presence of a solid construction, has received a low safety rating.

It is mainly explained by the fact that the base version has only two airbags. The LC 300 is equipped with 2 lockable differentials and 130-liter fuel tank by default.

The car is capable of towing a trailer weighing up to 3.5 tons.
