Audi A8L Horch 2022.

The Audi A8L Horch extended sedan: about to debut.

Three years ago it was reported that Audi was going to revive the Horch brand for the most luxurious version of the Audi A8 executive sedan.

And this project is finally brought to an end! Earlier this year, prototypes of such cars were spotted on tests, and soon new Horch will be declassified: presentation will be held on October 29.

Recall that the German brand Horch existed from 1904 to 1942, and in the thirties it was represented by cars of higher class with eight-cylinder engines.

Back in 1932, the company Horch merged with Audi, DKW and Wanderer in concern Auto Union AG, the logo of which became four rings, familiar to us by modern Audi.

From 1955 to 1958, the old factory in Zwickau produced passenger cars Horch P240, but after the Auto Union concern remained in the hands of Daimler-Benz, it had to give up using the historic brand.

In 1964, Auto Union was purchased by Volkswagen, after which the new owners revived the brand Audi.

The Horch brand remained owned by Daimler until the eighties, but even after the sale to Volkswagen, it remained «asleep».

Renewed Horch will become the top version of Audi A8L sedan.

It will be presented simultaneously with restyled «a-eight» and will compete with Mercedes-Maybach S-class sedan.

Judging by the spy photos, it will have a stretched wheelbase and huge rear doors.

But if the Maybach differs from the original S-Class with modified rear door openings and rear roof pillars, the creators of the Horch limited themselves to «stretching» the existing doors and did not change the pillars.

Other differences from the original Audi A8L sedan include new grille, Horch brand logos on the rear doors and luxury interior trim.

And Horch will become the only version with W12 6.0 engine (though there will be smaller engines) — following the example of Maybach, which has V12.

Interestingly, in the current generation of the Audi A8, a version with a W12 engine was ready initially, but its production has not started.

As we know, the future Audi novelty will be the last production car of the brand, which will be equipped with a powerful W12.

And it wouldn’t be surprising if the company ended up implementing this engine in its cars on the ultra-luxury A8.

The potential Horch could be a great competitor to the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.

The prototype pictured gives us an idea of what to expect from the A8 restyling in general.

The model will be equipped with completely changed front and rear optics, as well as an upgraded radiator grille.

In addition, the car is likely to receive unique rims.

We should note that the wheelbase of the Audi A8 Horch will be the same as in the A8 L.

The company’s representatives say that the interior of the luxury sedan will be completely renewed this time.

It will be available with the most advanced equipment. The debut should take place this year.
