The Germans presented the BMW 128ti: there are 265 «horses» and front-wheel drive.

In October two thousand and twentieth, the Germans presented the front-wheel drive «heated» hatchback BMW 128ti, which in the model range of the Bavarian brand will be located one step below the M135i xDrive model.

The letters «ti» in the car’s name are reported to be an abbreviation for «Turismo Internazionale».

BMW already had cars with the prefix «ti» (Touring Internationale). This was the designation for the sports modifications of the classic 1800 and 2002 models, as well as the three-door Compact of the third series of generations E36 and E46.

In the design of the new hatchback, you can find references to the car belonging to the sports series.

In addition to the characteristic logos on the body and in the interior, the BMW 128ti differs from the standard «units» by red accents on the M-bumpers, sills and brake calipers, a spoiler on the fifth door, 18-inch wheels of a special design, as well as tinted headlights and a radiator grille from the package Shadowline.

BMW has previously used this abbreviation to refer to a number of models (for example, 1800 TI, 2002 TI, 323ti Compact and 325ti Compact), so the novelty is a kind of return to the basics.

The interior of the «hot» five-door is decorated in the same style: there are many contrasting inserts, stitching and seat upholstery in red.

The center armrest between the front seats is embossed with the stylized Touring Internationale logo.

On the outside, the new BMW 128ti features black components from the Shadowline styling package, namely the radiator grille and side mirrors.

The car also boasts red all-round accents, special nameplates and 90mm exhaust pipes.

Such a hatchback was installed on 18-inch alloy wheels with a Y-shaped spoke design, which, if the client wishes, can be “shod” in grippy Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, and at no extra charge.

The new BMW 128ti hatchback is equipped with a derated up to 265 hp. and 400 Nm version of the petrol two-liter turbo four B48 from the top version of the M135i xDrive.

It works in tandem with an uncontested eight-speed «automatic» — the traditional «mechanics» of a hot hatch, alas, is not supposed to.

But the only drive axle is equipped with a limited slip differential. The company also mentioned that the 128ti modification is 80 kg lighter than the all-wheel drive «emka».

But in dynamics, the novelty is expected to lose: it takes 6.1 s to accelerate to 100 km / h versus 4.8 s for the basic version of the M135i xDrive and 4.7 with the M Performance package. The maximum speed is limited at around 250 km / h.

The interior of the model has a combination of Sensatec faux leather and fabric, although options also include sports seats in genuine Dakota leather.

The interior itself draws attention to itself with its striking red decor and the same stitching, while the center armrest is adorned with ti embroidery.

For a surcharge for the salon, you can order a multimedia system based on OS 7.0, branded digital tidy and a head-up display.

The German hot hatch is driven by a 2.0-liter «turbo four», which develops 265 «horses» and 400 Nm. This engine works in tandem with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic.

With such «stuffing» the five-door is capable of accelerating from zero to hundred in 5.1 seconds.

Another feature of the new BMW 128 is the retuned M Sport suspension with a 10 mm lower ride height. It is known that the design of the chassis involves more rigid springs and shock absorbers, as well as anti-roll bars and their supports.

A more powerful engine required a re-tuning of the steering and chassis refinement: along with the M Sport suspension, which reduced the ground clearance by 10 mm, the hatchback got an anti-roll bar from the M135i xDrive model and brake discs with a diameter of 360 mm at the front and 300 mm at the rear.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires will be offered as a free option.

All of these components have been borrowed from the older version of the M135i xDrive.

Also note that the car is equipped with a Torsen mechanical limited slip differential in the front axle and M Sport brakes, with 360mm discs with monobloc four-piston calipers at the front and 300mm floating calipers at the rear.

At the same time, the Germans proudly report that the 128ti was 80 kg lighter than the aforementioned M135i.

Unfortunately, the new BMW hatchback of the first series did not reach the Russian market: outside the key European markets, the company rely on its sister sedan, the Gran Coupe, of the second series.

In Germany, the BMW 128ti will have to pay at least 41,574 euros against 48,252 euros for the top version of the BMW M135i xDrive, sales are scheduled to start in November.
