BMW 2-Series Grant Coupe.

BMW 2-Series Grant Coupe 2020 — a compact sedan with sports characteristics.
In 2020-2021, the Bavarians are determined to roll out the competitor Mercedes CLA and Audi A3. Grant Coupé will replenish the lineup of the second series, taking the best from the BMW 1-Series hatchback and coupe models of the series.

Gran Coupe 2-Series received the F44 index and is positioned as a sports sedan, although it can more likely be called a four-door coupe due to its aggressive design, powerful technical filling, frameless doors and a compartment-shaped roof. More on each aspect below.

Specifications

In terms of technology, the 2-Series sedan is completely built on a hatchback platform from the first series (F40), where the transverse arrangement of the engine and front-wheel drive in the base are implemented. Like the hatchback, the four-door will come with all-wheel drive in expensive trim levels by connecting the clutch.

The following versions are offered for power units, respectively, complete sets:
The basic version will please 1.5 liter turbocharged petrol unit with a capacity of up to 140 hp. at 220 Hm. The pair will be a 6-speed manual or 7-speed robot (surcharge). Front-wheel drive by default;

Following is a 2-liter turbodiesel with a build-up of up to 190 hp. at 400 Hm. Included is an 8-speed automatic. Driving wheels — front;
Further, the Bavarians offer a gasoline unit with turbine support. The volume of four cylinders was 2 liters. Return — 231 hp at 350 Hm. As a control, they will offer the same 8 automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive coupling;

The final charged BMW received a turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder unit. Power will be 306 hp at 450 Hm. There is also an 8-speed automatic and Torsen’s proprietary four-wheel drive.

As for the charged version, namely it is the most interesting in the future lineup, then there is the M Performance sports package in it. Acceleration of such a car to hundreds will be 4.8 seconds.

The maximum speed is limited to 250 km / h. For comparison, the “cheapest” version accelerates in 8.7 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited to 215 km / h, so there is clearly something to pay for here.

The Gran Coupe suspension is also nothing new. Front two MacPherson struts, rear multi-link. M Sport versions are also available, where the clearance will be 10 mm less, and the option with adaptive VDC shock absorbers. Here is a fresh traction control with Performance Control torque distribution system, which has recently been installed in fresh Bavarian products.

Appearance

Of course, the Grant Coupe 2-Series 2020 model year is very different from those sedans that BMW had previously done.
The novelty is clearly more compact and got a rather experimental design. In size, the Bavarian four-door will be smaller than the competitor from Mercedes.

The wheelbase of the Grant Coupe is the same as that of the donor of the first series — 2670 mm.

Body dimensions:

BMW became 162 mm shorter — 4526 mm;
In width 30 mm less — 1800 mm;
In the height below 19 mm — 1420 mm.

On the front end could not do without a branded separate radiator grille, omitted rapid «nose» and the same dynamic LED optics. The lower part of the bumper got a rather intricate architecture, as usual with foglights in the niches of the air intakes and a central mesh diffuser.
On the side traced merry forms with a smoothly descending roof to the trunk and the lack of door frames. But the feed received too controversial design, which, perhaps, many will not like it.

Now the rear LEDs have become long and narrow, united by a molding that completes the overhanging rib of the trunk. Two air intakes appeared on the sides of the bumper, also connected by a stamped rib. The bottom is represented by shockproof plastic and small recesses for two exhausts.
Wheels are available in sizes from 18 to 21 inches with a choice of drawing from 4 options.

Salon

The interior of the BMW Gran Coupe 2-Series 2020 also follows the donor of the first series. The architecture of the torpedo is deployed towards the driver, emphasizing the sports direction of the novelty. Demonstrate the seriousness of the new two buckets in front.

Price and sales start date

A full presentation of the Gran Coupe 2-Series will take place in November in Los Angeles, after which the conveyor will start at once in several factories, since unlike some models, like the F52, it is planned to sell the sports sedan on all continents, including in Russia.

In particular, the Bavarians plan to supply only two configurations to our market. The basic (front-wheel drive, 140 hp and 6-speed manual) will be sold at 2.28 million rubles and charged (306 hp, four-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic) at a price of 3.49 million rubles.
