The sports car presented today is the final chord of BMW M GmbH’s 50th anniversary celebrations. The spectacular hand-built coupe combines nostalgic motifs and cutting-edge technology in a run of just 50 copies.

BMW 3.0 CSL has become, in fact, a small-scale embodiment of the concept BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage of 2015, and the latter, in turn, refers to the first model developed by BMW M division — BMW 3.0 CSL (E9) Coupe from the first half of the 70s, the most extreme version of which had a developed aerodynamic kit with high fins on the rear, due to which the model received the nickname «Batmobile».

The historical decoding of the letters CSL is Coupe, Sport, Leichtbau, the modern one is Competition, Sport, Lightweight.

Production 3.0 CSL is not as elegant as the concept Hommage, as it is based on a fairly bulky-looking body of BMW M4 CSL (this model debuted in May), but plump contours of the concept and its aerodynamic trim is reproduced on the production car quite accurately, with more small details — for example, appeared lengthwise ribs on the roof.

Bloated nostrils of the original M4 CSL have been replaced by more elegant «kidneys» and in general the contours of the body became smoother. The entire new dodger is made of carbon fiber.

If circulation of BMW M4 CSL will be 1000 copies, the coupe 3.0 CSL will be released in «anniversary» quantity of 50 pieces, and the number 50 is repeatedly used in its decor, including on the sides of the tires and the gear lever knob.

Yes, yes, the BMW 3.0 CSL is only equipped with a six-speed manual, which further distances it from the outgoing M4 CSL, which is equipped with an optional eight-speed automatic.

Both models have strictly rear-wheel drive, the traction is controlled by an active self-locking differential.

BMW did not specify the curb weight of the 3.0 CSL Coupe either, but it got the same set of lightweight parts as the M4 CSL, which weighs 1,625 kg, plus a new bodykit.

There are no rear seats, but instead there are niches for helmet storage. The wheels on the BMW 3.0 CSL are an inch bigger than those on the M4 CSL: 20-inch wheels in the front and 21-inch wheels in the back, the center nut mount has a plug in the form of a BMW emblem.

The carbon-ceramic brakes are visible through the openwork spokes of the wheels: 400 millimeters at the front with six-piston calipers, 380 millimeters at the rear with single-piston calipers.

The price of the BMW 3.0 CSL has not been officially announced, the independent resource BMWblog reports that it is 750,000 euros against 165,200 euros for the BMW M4 CSL.
