Updated BMW X5 M and X6 M 2023: mild-hybrid setup, refreshed look and large display.

The production of “charged” crossovers of the Bavarian brand will begin in April this year. The prices of new products are already known, dealers make pre-orders.

BMW launched the X5 crossover in 1999, the “hot” version with an addition in the form of the letter M appeared in 2009, and the current generation has been produced since 2019.

In turn, the variant with a coupe-shaped body — the BMW X6 — appeared in 2007, and its «charged» version — the X6 M — also joined in 2009, and changed generation in 2020.

A couple of weeks ago, the Bavarian manufacturer introduced updated «regular» crossovers, now it’s the turn of their «warmed up» performances, prepared by the M.

The BMW X5 M and X6 M are currently only available in the top Competition version.

During the update, the crossovers corrected the front part due to a different LED head optics of a narrower shape, as well as a revised branded radiator grille in the form of black “nostrils”, which is visually connected to a large air intake integrated into the lower part of the front bumper.

The stern of the X5 M crossover was updated due to a different pattern of the rear lights (their shape remained the same).

Both models also received original alloy wheels — 21-inch front and 22-inch rear, otherwise the sidewalls remained the same. Even refreshed cars have expanded the color palette.

The salon has changed in a familiar way: the standard BMW X5 and X6 received the same a couple of weeks ago.

So, on the front panel there is now a large curved display that combines a 12.3-inch virtual “tidy” and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Both screens have M-graphics. Unlike the “ordinary” crossovers, which received a small gear selector as part of the restyling, the “charged” variants were left with the same 8AKP control joystick.

During the update, the models changed the technique: now the “hot” all-wheel drive crossovers are equipped with a mild hybrid power plant.

It is based on a modernized V8 biturbo engine with a volume of 4.4 liters: it received other turbochargers, an intake and exhaust system with controlled dampers.

At the same time, the engine output remained the same — 625 hp. and 750 Nm of torque. Now it works in tandem with a 48-volt «electronic addition» integrated into the gearbox.

The power of this motor is 12 hp. (200 Nm), it plays the role of a starter-generator and helps cars in the first seconds during acceleration.

The curb weight of the updated BMW X5 M and X6 M has become 65 kg more compared to the pre-reform SUV: now 2400 and 2370 kg, respectively.

Crossovers now need 3.9 seconds to accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h (0.1 seconds more).

Two «hundreds» heated «X-sixth» is gaining in 13.6 seconds, and «X-fifth» — in 13.8 seconds (the predecessor was 0.4 seconds faster).

Top speed is still electronically limited to 250 km/h (up to 290 km/h with the addition of the M Driver’s package).

Dealers of the Bavarian brand are already taking orders for new items. Production and «live» sales of cars will begin next spring.

In the home market, in Germany, the starting price tag of the updated BMW X5 M Competition is 158,300 euros, and for the refreshed X6 M Competition they ask for at least 161,200 euros.
