Updated BMW Z4 M40i for the US market may get a manual transmission.
The new powertrain could arrive alongside the car’s anticipated mid-cycle 2023 refresh.
Rumor has it that BMW will equip the Z4 M40i with mechanics.
BMW’s Toyota equivalent received such an upgrade earlier this year, combining the coupe’s inline-six engine with a six-speed manual transmission.
Now the BMW blog is reporting that the BMW model could also get a similar update.
According to the sources of the publication, BMW is now considering installing a 6-speed manual transmission on the Z4 M40i.
BMW offers the four-cylinder Z4 sDrive30i with a 6-speed manual transmission in some markets, which Toyota has adapted for use with the BMW Supra’s B58 six-cylinder engine.
Toyota offers this combination in the US market.
BMW is expected to add a six-speed manual transmission to the Z4 M40i when it refreshes the lineup later this year.
The coupe will also get a light styling update, which should include a manual transmission.
The US may be the only market for the Z4 where BMW equips it with a manual transmission.
The BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra share many mechanical parts. These models are built on the basis of BMW, which uses BMW engines and transmissions.
They have distinct styling differences, and the two automakers have worked hard to give each a unique driving experience.
A manual transmission would be a great addition to the Z4 M40i, especially since there is talk that BMW might drop the car in 2025.
The manufacturer produces the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra. Clearly, the auto industry is shifting to all-electric cars, so cars like the Z4 could quickly go out of business.
Manual transmissions are disappearing like sports cars, sedans and other cars that are fun to drive.
Switching to electric cars will kill the powertrain once and for all, so for many, this will be the last chance to buy a BMW coupe with a manual transmission.
BMW is once again trying to bring back paid subscriptions for some of the car’s features.
