The «black-winged» super sedan Cadillac CT5-V turned out to be more powerful than the 635-horsepower BMW M5 CS.

Cadillac has officially unveiled two sports sedans at once — the CT5-V and CT4-V in the Blackwing version.

The four-doors received a redesigned chassis, a manual transmission as standard and new supercharged engines that make them noticeably more powerful than competitors, but at the same time remain rear-wheel drive.

The older model retained the 6.2-liter V8 that was installed on the CTS-V, but the engine was seriously redesigned — for example, due to the modernized intake system, new cylinder heads, a different lubrication system and an alternative exhaust.

As a result, the engine develops 677 hp. and 893 Nm of torque. This is more than the engine of the recently unveiled BMW M5 CS, which is called the most powerful M5 in history.

The motor is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, but a 10-speed «automatic» is optionally available.

With it, the Cadillac CT5-V will accelerate to 60 mph (97 km / h) in 3.7 seconds at a top speed of 322 km / h. The sedan did not get all-wheel drive, but it was equipped with an electronically controlled rear limited-slip differential.

In addition, the on-board electronics has several modes of operation, including those designed for the racetrack.

The sedan’s chassis has been modified with stiffer springs, hollow anti-roll bars, the current version of the Magnetic Ride adaptive system and brakes, which are called the largest in the history of serial Cadillacs.

Six-piston calipers with 398 mm discs are installed on the front axle of the sedan, and four-piston calipers with 374 mm discs are installed on the rear axle. Carbon ceramic brakes are optionally available, which are 24 kg lighter.

Among the new items are a modified Eaton supercharger (1.7 L), titanium intake valves and a new oil pan with a clever baffle system (so that oil does not pour out in high-speed corners).

Recoil — 677 hp and 893 Nm against 649 hp. and 854 Nm for the previous model CTS-V.

Both super sedans «in the base» have a six-speed manual transmission Tremec: in America this is a prerequisite for «charged» models, while «civilian» versions do not have a clutch pedal at all.

For a surcharge — a ten-speed «automatic» with magnesium gearshift paddles on the steering wheel. Like its predecessors, the new sedans are rear-wheel drive with an electronically controlled differential lock.

Alas, without all-wheel drive, the dynamic characteristics are not record-breaking.

The six-cylinder Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing with «automatic» can accelerate to 60 mph (97 km / h) in 3.8 seconds, and the eight-cylinder CT5-V Blackwing — in 3.7 seconds.

The maximum speed is 304 km / h and 322 km / h, respectively. For example, the latest BMW M5 CS (635 hp, 750 Nm) with all-wheel drive reaches 100 km / h in just 3.0 seconds.

Both powerful Cadillacs have reinforced bodies and Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 adaptive suspension with stiffer springs and thicker stabilizers.

The Quartet is equipped with 18-inch wheels, the Quartet has 19-inch wheels, and the standard tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

Brembo brakes are six-piston at the front and four-piston at the rear, while carbon-ceramic brakes are available for the CT5-V Blackwing, which reduce unsprung masses by 24 kg at the front and 28 kg at the rear.

Outside, the Blackwing version is easy to distinguish from less powerful cars by the advanced body kit: they have enlarged front air intakes, a diffuser in the rear bumper, large exhaust pipes, additional air ducts behind the front wheels.

For a surcharge, a carbon fiber body kit (front splitter, large spoiler on the trunk lid) is offered, which reduces lift by 214% for the CT4-V model and by 75% for the CT5-V sedan.

The main features in the salons are seats with increased lateral support and their own graphics of virtual instruments (a 12-inch display appeared on sedans last year).

The steering wheel now has a drive mode switch (in addition to the basic one, you can choose Sport or Track) and a separate V-Mode button, which puts all systems on alert with one press.

Lightweight CFRP seats are also available for the CT5-V Blackwing.

In the US, both super sedans are already available for order, and prices are traditionally attractive for such equipment.

The younger Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing starts at $ 60,000, and the older Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing starts at $ 85,000.

For comparison: prices for a BMW M3 in the US only start at 70 thousand, and for a base BMW M5 they ask for 104 thousand dollars.

But the circulation of super-Cadillacs for 2021 is limited: only 250 copies of each model will be released.

Commodity vehicles will appear by the end of summer, and the company will announce the production volume for 2022 later.
