Redesigned Citroen C5 Aircross unveiled: more technology and better looks.

A few months after testing began on public roads, the restyled 2022 Citroen C5 Aircross debuted.

The car underwent a mid-cycle development overhaul, gaining improved looks and more technology.

Despite Citroen’s planned restyling, the C5 Aircross has changed quite a bit compared to its predecessor.

The crossover has acquired a reduced radiator grille, along which the LED strips are laid.

They change into two curving strips going through the large headlights.

The C5 Aircross has acquired a larger and more sculptural bumper with pronounced side vents and an enlarged central air intake, which is complemented by a metal insert at the bottom.

On the sides of it are made round fog lights.

The interior of the C5 Aircross has also undergone significant changes. In particular, Citroen updated the brand cockpit, adding a 10-inch touchscreen monitor, narrowed vents and reduced gearshift.

The C5 Aircross got improved seats with thicker padding. The front seats are complemented by electric heat and massage.

The new Citroen C5 Aircross will enter the European market in summer with the usual set of petrol and turbodiesel engines.

Besides, the crossover will be offered with a hybrid unit giving out up to 222 h.p. of capacity and providing electric motive range of 55 km.

Its basis is a 180-horsepower turbocharged petrol engine which is combined with a compact electric motor and a 13,2-kilowatt battery. The French model still lacks all-wheel drive.

The compact crossover Citroen C5 Aircross has undergone a planned restyling, but has kept the same technical stuffing. The beginning of sales is in the beginning of summer.

Built on the modular EMP2 platform, the Citroen C5 Aircross crossover has been available in China since 2017, and in its native Europe since 2018.

After the premiere, the press was delighted with its design and comfortable suspension with hydraulic bumpers, but the French parkette never became a sales hit.

In China sales are frankly weak (less than 25 thousand per year), in Europe C5 Aircross treads in the middle of the market (in the best for the model in 2019 sold a little less than 80 thousand units).

In Russia, the «Frenchman» is considered a niche model for wealthy originals because of the high price tag and lack of all-wheel drive.

Scheduled restyling will hardly make C5 Aircross more popular, but it has received a new Citroen style with the X-shaped motif of the front and appreciably renewed interior.

The front end is completely redesigned: «double-deck» headlights are replaced by one-piece, although with a step between the lower and upper sections.

LED «whiskers» of headlights are continuation of LED garlands of the radiator grill, which are closed in the center on the framed by chrome glossy black Citroen emblem.

The front bumper now looks visually wider because of the new vertical slots moved to the edges and increased central air intake.

The changes on the stern have been reduced to the new LED filling of the lights: the red sections are now arranged in staggered order.

The interior has new front seats with 15 mm thicker adaptive foam filler, and in addition to heating now offers a built-in massager.

Central console reconfigured for the installation of a larger (10-inch instead of 8-inch) screen of the multimedia system, comfortable vertical air ducts gave way to a lower located horizontal, while a separate touchscreen climate control and gallery of physically hot keys remained in place, and in the niche below them appeared additional (second) USB port.

The central tunnel is also reconfigured: a non-fixed automatic selector on it gave way to a small «flash drive», but the niche for the little things has become larger.

The power units lineup remains the same: in Europe the crossover is offered with a 1.5-liter turbodiesel (130 hp) or 1.2-liter petrol «turbo» (130 hp) paired with a 6-speed «manual» or 8-speed hydromechanical «automatic».

The plug-in hybrid version on the basis of a 1.6-liter petrol turbo-motor with a total output of 224 hp, capable to drive up to 61 km on electric power stands apart.

In Russia, the Citroen C5 Aircross before its restyling is offered with a 1.6-liter petrol turbo motor (150 hp) coupled with a six-speed «automatic transmission» or with a 2.0-liter turbo diesel (177 hp) and eight-speed automatic transmission.

The actual range of prices without «extras» is from 2,44 to 2,97 million rubles. For the first three quarters of this year only 218 C5 Aircross were sold in our country.
