Citroen DS 4 2021.

Citroen has unveiled the new generation DS 4 premium hatchback.

In early February 2021, the French from Citroen presented the new (second) generation DS 4 hatchback. Outside, the model remained recognizable, but lost its coupe-like silhouette.

If on the predecessor, the rear doors were miniature and had blind windows, then on the car in the new body, the doors are full-fledged, with power windows.

In turn, the hatchback’s «face» is characterized by the presence of a large frameless grille and matrix head optics.

By the way, each of the car headlights consists of 98 individual LEDs, due to which the electronics can flexibly control the light beam.

Plus, in the design of the optics, a movable central module is involved, capable of turning in the range of 33.5 degrees.

Outside, the new DS 4 2021 boasts recessed door handles and the largest wheels in the segment: 19 or 20-inch wheels are offered for cars.

The salon has a combination of leather, suede, wood and carbon fiber trim (depending on the configuration), and its seats are equipped with ventilation and massage.

It offers passengers a multimedia system with a 10.0-inch display and extensive online functionality.

It can be operated from a separate five-inch touch panel on the central tunnel, and it is not necessary to touch it (conditional «clicks» are fixed at a minimum distance).

In turn, the transmission is controlled from a miniature push-button panel located just above the mentioned touchpad.

The five-door also has a head-up display, and the image from it seems to hover over the road a few meters in front of the car. Of the options worth noting is the Focal Electra audio system with fourteen speakers.

Another feature of the DS 4 cabin is the central ventilation deflectors, which are visually combined with the climate control panel.

The French carried the side deflectors to the doors. Plus, the designers abandoned the usual handles on the doors, so to open the doors, you need to pull on the impromptu window sill.

The new DS 4 2021 is built on the modular EMP2 platform, familiar from many other modern Citroen and Peugeot models, although about 70% of the components involved in the car are completely new.

The five-door turned out to be noticeably larger than the predecessor: the overall length is 4,400 mm, the wheelbase is 2,675 (+ 63), the width is 1,830, the height is 1,470, and the trunk volume is 430 liters.

Suspension French hatchback inherited from older models DS 7 Crossback and DS 9. Its design uses electronically controlled shock absorbers.

The electronics change the stiffness of the latter preemptively, relying on data from the front camera, which scans the road in front of the car.

The line of power units DS 4 in a new body is represented by a 1.2-liter «turbo-three» Puretech (130 hp), a 1.6-liter «turbo four» Puretech (180 or 225 hp), as well as 1.5 -liter turbodiesel BlueHDi (130 HP).

All motors work in tandem with an eight-speed automatic, transferring traction to the wheels of the front axle.

Plus in the range of new items there is also a rechargeable hybrid DS 4 E-Tense, which has a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 180 hp. works in conjunction with a 110-horsepower electric motor built into the aforementioned eight-speed automatic transmission.

The total output of the units is 225 «horses», but the drive on the hybrid is again exclusively front.

It is reported that the gasoline-electric version of the DC 4 is equipped with a traction battery with a capacity of 12.4 kWh, the presence of which is reflected in the volume of the trunk (the latter here has been reduced to 390 liters).

The hybrid is capable of driving exclusively on electric traction up to 50 kilometers (according to the WLTP cycle).

The second generation hatchback also has adaptive cruise control Drive Assist 2.0, the capabilities of which correspond to the second level of autonomy.

In other words, the car is capable of independently driving on the highway and overtaking at the command of the driver. Plus, an infrared night vision camera with a range of up to 200 m is «hidden» in the radiator grille.

The French immediately prepared two special modifications for the novelty. The first is called the «Performance Line» and sports a «sporty» black décor.

The second option is called «DS 4 Cross» — it has blackened lining around the body and roof rails, plus it has special «off-road» electronics settings.

The traction control system here has presets for moving through snow, mud and sand, and the list of electronic assistants includes a system of assistance when descending from a mountain.

Sales of the new model DS 4 on the European market will start only in the fourth quarter of two thousand twenty-one, there is no information on prices yet.

The company does not hesitate to name the German premium hatchbacks Audi A3, BMW 1-Series and Mercedes A-Class as competitors.
