Denza D9: a luxury Chinese minivan from BYD and Mercedes-Benz.

BYD and Mercedes-Benz have declassified their joint project — the Denza D9 luxury minivan.

This is the firstborn of a new range of models, which will consist of five families, designated by the letters «D», «E», «N», «Z» and «A». In terms of exterior design, the one-volume is similar to the Toyota Alphard.

The model has a massive grille and located on either side of it no less than large air intakes.

The car has aggressive headlights with boomerang-shaped headlights, while its taillights are made as a solid band across the whole width of the rear.

Depending on the package, it may have 18- or 19-inch wheels. The seven-seater minivan’s interior is characterized by an abundance of digital displays, while the analogue buttons here are the necessary minimum.

In particular, the car is equipped with a 10.25-inch instrument panel and 15.6-inch touchscreen entertainment system.

On the second row, there are separate tablets with a diagonal of about 12.8″ with individual cameras for video calls. In total, there are six displays in the cabin at once, five of which are touch screen.

In turn, a crystal joystick is provided for a choice of driving presets. Separate multicontour seats with electric adjustments are called to please the passengers of the second row, and their comfort directly depends on the chosen configuration of the model.

So, in the top they have heating, ventilation, massage, as well as folding footrests.

Moreover, the seats can be controlled with small touchscreens integrated into the armrests. And in the lounge there is a usual three-seat sofa.

The interior itself boasts of expensive trimming materials with «wooden» accents and developed contour illumination.

The car also has a panoramic roof, electrically operated side doors and a trunk lid, and electronic curtains on the windows.

Two-layered glasses, matrix LED optics, Nappa leather, premium Dynaudio music and a four-zone climate control are listed among equipment of the top version.

Denza D9 2023 has the following dimensions: length — 5 250 mm, width — 1 960 mm, and height — 1 920 mm. Axle spacing of the minivan is claimed to be 3 110 mm.

According to the data sheet, the volume of the trunk ranges from 410 to 570 liters. The car has an independent suspension and is offered on the market either with a sequential hybrid DM-i, or as a full electric car (e-platform 3.0).

Externally, these versions differ from each other by the front body cladding. Both modifications received power units from BYD.

Thus, a hybrid is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine, which is either shut off or works as a generator most of the time.

The hybrid unit works in parallel mode only in exceptional cases, with the engine connected to the front wheels using a clutch and a single-stage reduction gear. The hybrid D9 DM-i does not have the usual gearbox.

It can be driven either front or all-wheel drive, and for mono-drive versions there are two options of traction battery, which provide up to 50 or 190 km of range.

But on the four-wheel drive hybrid, the traction battery is the highest capacity — its range is 180 km.

As for the electric D9, it can have one or two electric motors, that is also available with front or all-wheel drive. Its battery traction is Blade series, and it should last more than 600 km.

Of the electronics available for the model, the Denza Pilot adaptive cruise control is worth mentioning, which by its capabilities meets the second level of autonomy, as well as all-around vision cameras.

Note that the new Denza D9 debuted on the Celestial market in August of the twenty-second. The Chinese ask from 49 to 66 thousand USD (from 3.0 to 4.1 million rubles at current exchange rate) for a hybrid minivan, while an electric car costs from 57 to 68 thousand USD (from 3.5 to 4.2 million rubles).

The company also released a «welcome» version of the model Founders Edition with the richest equipment. Its production run was 99 cars at a price of $97,000 each (almost 6.0 million rubles).
