The Ford Explorer crossover already has a «charged» ST version and a luxurious King Ranch, and now there is another variant called Timberline.

It is intended for those buyers looking for an all-terrain Explorer. Moreover, the list of improvements in this crossover is quite serious.

Large crossover Ford Explorer 2021 model year has got a new off-road version called «Timberline». This modification is positioned by the developers as the most passable in the line.

Outside, it features a dark Carbonized Gray grille with attachments for additional headlights, Red Ember tow hooks and other LED fog lights.

Another feature of the special version is the new green metallic Forged Green, plus darkened headlights and lamps and special Timberline nameplates. On the wheels are 18-inch alloy wheels with 265/65 off-road tires.

The interior of the crossover is finished in Deep Cypress with a black ceiling and contrasting Deep Tangerine stitching. It features leather seats with fabric inserts and rubber floor mats.

The latter developers consider the most practical, as they are easy to clean. Technically, the Ford Explorer Timberline boasts a reinforced suspension with shock absorbers from the Explorer Police Interceptor.

And in the design of the chassis, new springs and anti-roll bars are involved. Together with all-terrain tires, this allowed to increase the ground clearance by 20 mm. The angles of entry and exit are equal to 23.5 and 23.7 degrees, respectively.

The interior features of the new version are bright stitching and rubber mats instead of textile ones. Timberline has a relatively simple equipment with analog instruments and a small screen of the media system, and the engine of such a crossover is basic — a turbocharger 2.3 EcoBoost with a capacity of 304 hp. in tandem with a ten-speed «automatic» and all-wheel drive.

The Ford Explorer Timberline crossover will hit the US market this summer. Later, a similar version of Timberline will appear in other models of the company.

In addition, the Americans revised the steering settings, and also installed additional protection on the bottom (now both the engine and transmission and some other units and assemblies are covered from impacts from below with steel plates).

As for the engine, the new modification is offered exclusively with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost «turbo four» with a capacity of 300 hp. (420 Nm), working in conjunction with a ten-speed machine.

Four-wheel drive with a rear Torsen limited slip differential is already included in the base, while the off-road Terrain Management System allows you to choose one of seven driving presets.

The equipment list of the new Ford Explorer Timberline is represented by a number of electronic assistants, among which there is also an adaptive cruise control with a start-stop function.

Also, the car is equipped by default with the optional «Class III Trailer Tow Package», with which it is able to tow a trailer weighing up to 2.4 tons.

The suspension contains more durable shock absorbers from the police version, new springs and stabilizers, as well as additional rebound buffers on the front axle. As a result, the ground clearance is increased by 20 mm — up to 221 mm.

Additional steel protection is installed underneath, and in the transmission there is a Torsen limited-slip rear differential.

Ford Explorer Timberline has original bumpers, thanks to which the angles of entry and exit are increased. The towing eyes are displayed in front, and the factory preparation for the installation of the towbar is made at the rear.

The original grille is equipped with additional diode spotlights, which shine 2.5 times brighter than the regular main beam. Finally, Timberline has 265/65 R18 Bridgestone Dueler off-road tires.

Outfitters SkyBox, Outfitters MegaWarrior and Outfitters FrontLoader are worth noting among the additional equipment. They include special floor mats as well as Yakima roof racks / racks.

Acceptance of orders for the new Ford Explorer Timberline has already started, while the first «live» cars are expected in the showrooms of American dealers in the summer of the twenty-first. It is possible that later other crossovers of the brand will acquire a similar modification.
