Ford F-150 2021: new 14th generation pickup.
In the USA, on June 25, 2020, the official premiere of the new Ford F-150 pickup took place, which, after a generation change, has become even more technological. Let’s remind that this model from Ford Motor Company is the best-selling model in America — 900,000 cars per year.

The 14th generation Ford F-150 will be produced at the Kansas City Assembly Plant and Dearborn Truck Plant at once. The start of sales of the F-150 is scheduled for the fall of this year at a price of $ 30,000 (the pre-reform model is offered from $ 28,745).

The new pickup has six basic configurations, not counting additional options, six power plants, two types of drive, five wheelbases, three types of cabins and three cargo platforms, in a word, the number of versions is simply enormous.

There are eleven types of radiator grilles alone, new decals have been added to the rear, and full-size footsteps with a start switch provide better access to the pickup’s cargo area.

In addition, up to four outlets can be located on the cargo platform (as an option, the pickup can supply the external equipment Pro Power Onboard, for non-hybrid modifications the load on them is limited to two kilowatts), and the clamps on the rear side allow it to be used as a workbench, and are included in the standard equipment.

The new Tailgate Work Surface is optionally available with built-in ruler and holders for pencil mugs and mobile devices.

All F-150s now have a foldable transmission selector on top of which an Interior Work Surface or laptop table can be folded out in the parking lot. In the second row, the cushion can be raised and turned into an additional cargo compartment with a flat floor, and as an option, you can order a box with adjustable dividers under the rear seats.

Specifications

The new pickup truck of the fourteenth generation from the start of sales is offered with the only full hybrid power plant PowerBoost Full Hybrid, which includes a V6 3.5 EcoBoost engine with two turbochargers, a 35-kilowatt (47 hp) electric motor built into 10 automatic transmissions.

With this powerplant, a single-tank pickup truck that holds 115.8 liters of fuel can travel up to 700 miles (1,126 km), and is also capable of pulling a trailer weighing up to 5443 kg.

The Pro Trailer Backup Assist, which is actually available as an option, allows all movements to be carried out precisely by turning the handle on the console.

The traction, liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery is located under the floor between the frame side members and does not affect the passenger compartment or load box.

The hybrid propulsion system is already equipped by default with a 2.4 kW Pro Power Onboard system (available as an option for 7.2 kW).

Pro Power can also power tools and camping equipment and work, both on the move and in the parking lot. While the pickup is moving from place to place, it can recharge tool batteries, electric bicycles, power a large refrigerator and other equipment from outlets.

Later, other engines will be added to the lineup: gasoline V6 3.3 Ti-VCT FFV, V6 2.7 EcoBoost, V8 5.0 Ti-VCT, V6 3.5 EcoBoost and diesel V6 3.0 Power Stroke. The manufacturer has not yet announced their power and torque.

The capacity of the fuel tank, depending on the engine, can be from 87 to 136 liters. All power units work exclusively in tandem with 10 automatic transmissions.

The drive can be rear or full; in the second version, the rear differential can be free or with electronic locking.

The frame of the pickup is made of high-strength steel, the body panels are made of aluminum alloy, the front suspension is double wishbone with coil-over blocks of shock absorber-spring, and the rear is a rigid axle with leaf springs.

Among other things, the company has also taken a new step in the field of network connectivity. The Ford F-150 is the first full-size pickup truck in the United States with an over-the-air software update.

And we are talking not only about updating the multimedia system, but about the car as a whole. The update will take place over the life of the pickup.

Most of the updates are downloaded in a couple of minutes, and at the time chosen by the owner.

Among the supported functions of the Sync 4 media center (in the entry-level configurations XL and XLT is 8 inches, in versions XLT high and above — 12 inches) — wireless connection using Apple CarPlay / Android Auto interfaces, voice command recognition, free access to multimedia content and online -services.

The updated pickup received an expanded set of Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 electronic assistants. It includes emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a rearview camera with dynamic lane lines and automatic headlight switching.

Separately, there is a system for detecting oncoming traffic when turning left (Intersection Assist) and an advanced valet with functions of longitudinal and parallel parking (Active Park Assist 2.0).

But a real breakthrough in terms of electronic equipment is the inclusion of Active Drive Assist in the range of autopilot assistance systems.

He can independently drive on all major highways in the US and Canada, without even requiring hands on the steering wheel.

All the driver needs is to monitor the traffic situation, since there is a camera in the cabin that monitors the position of the person’s head and gaze.

The hardware required for the Active Drive Assist complex will already be installed on the new pickup, but the software will not appear until the third quarter of 2021.

It can be installed wirelessly or in the dealer’s salon.
