The first-generation Ford GT returns with a carbon fiber body and 1,500-horsepower engine.

The GT1 company from the U.S. state of Michigan will produce 30 supercars on first-generation GT chassis bought back from Ford, which have been in storage all this time.

The technical stuffing will be seriously upgraded.

The original first-generation Ford GT supercar was produced from 2004 to 2006, just over 4,000 were made, and well-preserved cars are worth a fortune on the aftermarket.

«First» Ford GT stylistically repeated the legendary Ford GT40 racing model from the 60’s, but had state-of-the-art stuffing at the time, namely a compressor-powered 5.4-liter V8 (558 hp, 678 Nm) mated to a six-speed manual transmission that transmits all power to the rear wheels.

The stock car reaches the first «hundred» in 3.8 seconds, the top speed — 330 km/h.

As it turned out, 30 unclaimed GT chassis of the first generation were kept in air-conditioned warehouse of sports division Ford Performance all that time — they were made with a stock including for racing versions of GT1/GT3 classes.

Those kits have been purchased, with Ford approval, by GT1 of Michigan to make the final and most audacious batch of first-generation Ford GTs, with assembly to begin in the coming months.

The exterior trim will be made entirely of unpainted, lacquered carbon fiber on molds purchased from Matech Concepts (this Swiss company was involved in the construction of racing versions of the Ford GT), with some changes to the body shell to improve the aerodynamic characteristics of the car.

Maximum power will be more than 1,500 hp. The gearbox is not listed on the GT1 website, but according to Autoblog it is a special version of the Sadev SL90-20 sequencer.

The chassis is also upgraded, for it ordered adjustable Multimatic DSSV shock absorbers with external reservoirs.

Dynamic characteristics and other technical features have not been disclosed yet.

The revived Ford GT is being prepared primarily as a track supercar, but the company says it will be able to certify the car in some states for public roads as well.

Meanwhile, this year will be the last year for the second-generation Ford GT supercar, which originally had a carbon fiber body and is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost biturbo engine with 669 hp.

Whether Ford will have a third-generation GT supercar is still unknown, no official information on that, and unofficial ones, too. The pause between the first and second generations of Ford GT lasted ten years.
