GAZ Cornet 2022-2023.

The other day it became known that the company GAZ plans to return to the market passenger cars of its own production.

In Runet for many years they have been discussing the possibility of reviving the Volga sedan.

But instead of it, GAZ will set up production of a full-fledged crossover, which will be named after the anti-tank missile system installed on the army’s «Tiger» vehicles.

Judging by the published information, the novelty will become a real bestseller on the Russian market.

The price for the new GAZ Kornet 2022-2023 will be about 1,200,000 rubles.

The Russian model will be based on the Jetta VS5 crossover, which Volkswagen and FAW produce for the Chinese market.

This car is based on a modified platform MQB-A1, which is used to build such cars as Skoda Karoq, Volkswagen T-Roc, VW Jetta and others.

Volkswagen will sell this architecture to GAZ Group, as the latter does not have the means to design, test and create a new platform.

This cooperation is beneficial for both sides. GAZ will generate additional income by producing a small crossover. Volkswagen will also be able to sell its own design platform, which will not be devoid of profit.

The fact that this crossover could become a bestseller is evidenced not only by its affordable price.

The new Cornet will be close to the more expensive Tiguan in terms of features and equipment.

The MQB-A1 platform opens up a lot of opportunities for GAZ to create a budget crossover with rich equipment.

This «bogie» supports the introduction of effective all-wheel drive on the basis of an electronically controlled multi-disc clutch.

This will make the new GAZ Cornet 2022-2023 quite stable and manageable in different operating conditions.

In addition to the effective all-wheel drive, the new Cornet will get a German steering mechanism with electric booster.

One of its important features is that it can be adjusted depending on the driving style.

The steering wheel has three modes of operation, each of which changes its sensitivity.

These characteristics are already enough for the Russian model to be more attractive in the eyes of potential buyers compared to Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos or the new-found «Chinese» Haval Jolion.

However, the novelty will not stop only with it. It will be based on the checked design of front McPherson struts and rear multilever suspension.

As the tests showed, the Jetta VS5 with such base copes well with road harshness.

The Hyundai Creta and KIA Seltos have a semi-independent beam at the rear, which makes the ride less comfortable.

It is reported that the future GAZ Cornet will be deeply unified with the Jetta VS5.

This means that the same technologies will be used in the production of the Russian novelty.

In particular, part of the Kornet’s structure is expected to be made of high-strength steel.

This solution has already proved its effectiveness. The conducted crash test showed that the Jetta VS5 in frontal and side impacts protects from serious damage both the driver and all passengers.

According to the results of this test the crossover scored 5 points. This result is largely due to the robust construction.

The length of the new GAZ Kornet 2022-2023 will be 4419 mm, width — 1841 mm, and height — 1616 mm. Wheelbase size will reach 2630 mm.

Despite the fact that the new GAZ Cornet is an urban crossover, it will be able to cope well off-road. This will provide an extensive list of electronic systems.

Additionally the Kornet will receive an assistant when starting on an uphill, as well as an all-wheel drive control system with advanced settings.

Under the hood of Russian novelties placed familiar on the crossover Kodiaq and other models of the Volkswagen brand 1.4-liter turbocharged engine.

This unit is installed 16-valve head with two camshafts, a system of direct fuel injection and hydro-compensators.

Maximum power of the engine depending on the version reaches 122 or 140 hp. In the first case, the phase shifter is installed on the intake shaft, in the second — also on the exhaust.

The design of the engine includes belt drive of the timing, the lifetime of which is 60,000 kilometers.

The 1.4-liter engine is combined with 6-speed automatic transmission. It is possible that GAZ in order to reduce the price of the base version will offer a 6-speed «mechanics» with Kornet.

Already in base kitting Russian crossover will appear at least 4 airbags, stereo, such standard systems as brake lock prevention and stabilization of the body.

And the second one will be added with function of automatic activation at speeds over 100 km/h. In more expensive configurations this list is significantly expanded.

Complete with Cornet, it will be possible to purchase a multimedia complex with an 8-inch touch screen, LED optics, monitoring systems for blind spots, tracking traffic signs, monitoring tire pressure and others.

The list of driver assistants will be replenished with an assistant that warns the departure from the occupied lane.

For comfort in the new Cornet will meet the seats trimmed with artificial leather, climate control and adaptive cruise control, operating at speeds from 0 to 160 km/h.

Probably, the multimedia complex will include services from Yandex, including a navigation map.

Officially, the timing of the debut of the new GAZ Cornet 2022-2023 has not yet been disclosed.
