The Hyundai ix35 crossover will soon have a successor.
The fresh compact SUV has an aggressive look. So far, only one engine has been announced for the model, while a “mild hybrid” version is also tipped for it.
Photos and main characteristics of the new Hyundai crossover were leaked by the Chinese Ministry of Industry.
Some local specialized media believe that this SUV will replace the Hyundai ix35 model.
Recall that the global market «thirty-fifth» left a long time ago, it was replaced by the Tucson SUV.
But in China, the production of the ix35 continues: in 2017, the cross moved into the second generation, it experienced a large-scale restyling at the end of 2020.
«Pyatidverka» remains one of the most popular models of the brand in the «celestial» market, although at the end of last year, demand collapsed by 20% to 66,500 units. But back to the new cross.
Judging by the inscription on the stern, the model will go on sale under the name Mufasa. By the way, that was the name of the lion from the Disney cartoon, Simba’s father.
However, it is possible that the name will be changed — this is a common practice for China.
The Hyundai novelty has a rather aggressive appearance: the SUV got vertical headlight blocks, a massive radiator grille and bumpers.
On the sides there is a relief stamping in the style of Toussan. Finally, the crossover received unusual rear lights, they were made in the form of a frame.
The length of the new SUV is 4475 mm, width — 1850 mm, height — 1665/1681/1685 mm (depending on version), wheelbase — 2680 mm.
The current Hyundai ix35 is longer (4500 mm) and taller (1710 or 1715 mm), but its width is the same, and the distance between the axles is 40 mm less.
There is only one engine in the documents of the certification body so far: a 2.0 petrol “aspirated” with a capacity of 160 hp.
At the same time, the Chinese media tipped Hyundai Mufasa also a “mild hybrid” version with a 48-volt weight.
True, it is not yet clear whether this will be an addition to the “traditional” SUV, or whether the electrified version will be the only one.
The local Hyundai ix35 SUV is equipped with the same atmospheric two-liter engine (without a makeweight), in addition, the cross comes with a 1.4 T-GDI turbo four with a capacity of 140 hp.
The 2.0 engine is equipped with a classic six-speed «automatic», the turbo engine is paired with a seven-speed robotic box. The ix35 has only front-wheel drive.
Premiere Hyundai Mufasa should celebrate this year. Most likely, like the ix35, the crossover will be a Chinese exclusive.
