Hyundai Kona 2023.

The Koreans have fully declassified the Hyundai Kona II second generation: all the details.

The official premiere of the second-generation Hyundai Kona crossover has taken place in South Korea.

The public was shown the model in the specification for the local market, but variants for other countries should be about the same.

In the published photos we can see that the all-terrain vehicle in the new body has a «cleaner» look.

The automaker notes that the basic design was developed specifically for the battery-powered Electric version, around which other versions were then created.

Anyway, the brand’s specialists were obviously inspired by the «pixel» theme.

This is especially noticeable on the electric variant of the parkette, in which a wide strip of headlights is made not solid, but consists of numerous luminous dots.

In turn, petrol and hybrid modifications can be distinguished by massive black overlays on wheel arches.

The cars with N Line dodger are announced with more aggressive bumpers and showy twin-barrelled exhaust system (for cars with ICE).

And the presented car attracts attention with 19-inch wheels of unusual design.

Its interior is designed in the style of the electric car Ioniq 5. This means that the front panel has 12.3-inch displays of digital dashboard and multimedia system, visually united with each other.

To be fair, the basic set of dashboard is still simpler, with two digital scales and placed between them and an onboard computer screen, although it is all masked by a single large display.

The car has a separate control unit for climate control.

By default, it consists of three rotary knobs, and in expensive versions — from the block of buttons.

In turn, the gear selector was moved from the central tunnel to the steering column, which freed up space for cup holders.

The company notes that the new items cabin became much more spacious (due to increased size).

Thus, the distance between the rows was increased by 77 mm, and the ceiling over the second row — raised by 11 mm.

The rear passengers should be glad that there is no central tunnel.

It is necessary to note electric drive and ventilation of front seats, and also heating of all seats.

It is also possible to order all-around view cameras and a full set of electronic assistants with adaptive cruise control.

Hyundai Kona 2023 is noticeably larger than its predecessor, and the Koreans have decided to increase its size to avoid internal competition from the junior model Bayon.

In length the crossover now reaches 4,355 mm (+ 150), and in width — 1,825 mm (+ 25). Its wheelbase was stretched to 2,660 mm (+ 60).

The trunk volume has increased to 723 liters (on the SAE cycle). Its door is electrically operated, and the opening height can be adjusted through the multimedia system.

Like the outgoing model, the novelty is offered with a variety of power plants.

Thus, in the base the automobile has a 2,0-liter atmospheric engine, working on an economical Atkinson’s cycle.

Its output is declared at the level of 149 hp (180 Nm), and in a binder to it Koreans have strapped off a variator IVT. The initial model has front-wheel drive.

The more expensive variant is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbo motor T-GDi with power of 198 hp (265 Nm) and an eight-speed automatic.

This modification is offered both with a front, and a full drive.

By the way, the 4WD-version has independent multi-linkage suspension instead of a beam.

And there is also Hyundai Kona Hybrid. It is not difficult to guess that it is already a hybrid. It has the power plant from the similar predecessor.

It means that a 1,6-liter atmospheric GDi engine with 105 hp (147 Nm), 44 hp electric motor (170 Nm) and a six-band preselective robot move the car.

The total output of these units is declared at the level of 141 hp and 265 Nm of torque.

Drive in the gasoline-electric version is front-end, the possibility of charging the battery from a socket is not provided.

As for the full electric version of the Kona Electric, although it is the main bet, but its characteristics have not yet been announced, and it will appear on sale a little later.

But the «hot» modification Kona N will not appear in the second generation yet.

The thing is that the current model appeared only a year and a half ago, so it will continue to be produced as is.

In Korea the sales of the new crossover have already started. Prices for gasoline cars start from USD 20,000 (1.4 million rubles at current exchange rate), and for the hybrid they ask from $25,700 (1.8 million rubles).

The electric car will appear in March of the twenty-third. At the same time the car will debut on the export markets.
