Jeep Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid 2022 variants can already be applied for in some countries. Jeep is transitioning to electrified vehicles in Europe.

American brand Jeep will sell only cars with an electric component in Europe.

This was officially announced in the concern Stellantis, which now includes the brand. And the question is not only about electric cars.

At the moment the company launches cars with a hybrid component.

Now in Europe such modification Wrangler is already on sale, and in Germany, Italy and France have started to accept applications for Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid. Quite soon «live sales» will start.

Thus the Italian market can be called the largest for Jeep.

In this country, the company is a leader in sales of cars with low levels of harmful emissions.

In France, the hybrid Jeep also accounts for about 50% of all Jeep vehicles sold.

If we dwell in detail on Jeep Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid, their motors are based on 1.5-liter turbocharged engines, which are able to produce 130 hp. They are supplemented with an electric motor for 20 hp.

At the same time at low speeds you can drive on electricity alone, which saves fuel noticeably, and also reduces emissions when the car is standing in traffic.

Somewhat later in Europe, a hybrid package of the large Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV will also appear. Here, the engine output will be much higher — 381 hp.

The Jeep Company has set an ambitious new goal: by the end of this year it will completely switch to hybrid models in most European countries.

Currently, plug-in hybrids account for only 25% of Jeep brand sales in the European Union: the Renegade 4xe, Compass 4xe and Wrangler 4xe are offered here.

Although in some countries (e.g. France), their share reaches 50%. New, simpler hybrid versions of Jeep Renegade and Compass crossovers will help to achieve the goal.

The 4xe, which appeared two years ago, has all-wheel drive with a separate electric motor on the rear axle, and their batteries can be charged from the wall outlet.

The new Renegade e-Hybrid and Compass e-Hybrid are arranged differently. They have only front-wheel drive, no outlet connection, and the electric add-on is less efficient.

The e-Hybrid versions have a new 1.5 gasoline turbo four that belongs to the GSE (Global Small Engine) modular family and runs on the fuel-efficient Miller cycle.

It has direct fuel injection at 350 bar, a compression ratio of 12.5:1, turbocharging and a belt-driven starter-generator. The output is low: 130 hp and 240 Nm.

The transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch robot, and it has a 48-volt electric motor that produces 20 hp and 55 Nm.

It is most effective when starting off and driving at low speed, so during parking or crawling traffic such hybrids can move only on electric traction, but with further increase in speed the combustion engine is connected. There is no information about the traction battery yet.

The developers claim that these hybrids are 15% more economical than similar gasoline cars.

The average passport fuel consumption — 6.1 liters/100 km in the model Renegade e-Hybrid and 6.0 liters/100 km in a larger, but more streamlined crossover Compass e-Hybrid. Acceleration times to a «hundred» are 9.7 and 10.0 seconds, respectively.

Crossovers in e-Hybrid version are already available to order in Italy, France and Germany.

Jeep Renegade e-Hybrid costs from 32200 euros against 39500 for the rechargeable hybrid 4xe.

But purely petrol Renegade, which will leave the market till the end of the year, now can be bought for 24900 euros: feel the difference!

Senior Jeep Compass e-Hybrid is priced at least at 36200 euros versus 31900 euros for the «base» and 45850 euros for the rechargeable hybrid.

Sales will start in March, and then pull up the other markets in Europe.

Next summer on the local market will appear Jeep Grand Cherokee next generation, and here it will be available only as a rechargeable hybrid.

Thus, the European range electrification has not yet reached only the Jeep Gladiator pickup, but by the end of the year this issue will be solved.
