At the same time, the range of the electric version of the Niro is expected to exceed the mark of 483 kilometers.
The hybrid crossover will be based on the same 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, which is combined with a compact electric motor and a small battery.
According to rumors, the output of this unit will be less than the one that the Sorento PHEV is equipped with.
It is known that Kia will make big changes to the body and interior of the Niro as part of a change of generation.
The latest photos of the test model show that the Korean model will get a front bumper with enlarged central air intake, plastic skirts and redesigned LED lights.
The rear lights will be located higher than on the current Niro.
The interior of the crossover is designed in the style of the latest Sportage. In particular, the new Niro will be equipped with dual digital dashboard and touch screen monitor, the diagonal of which reaches 12 inches.
According to preliminary information, Kia will improve the quality of finishing materials and install a twin-spoke steering wheel. Presentation of the second-generation Niro should take place before the end of this year.

South Korean brand has started sales of an updated plug-in hybrid crossover Niro version 2022 model year.
The novelty received a new logo and a minimum price tag of $25,000 or 1,849,665 rubles.
The plug-in hybrid Kia Niro will get a slight update for the 2022 model year version. It gets a new badge with the Kia logo, gets the same price as its predecessor and still provides an all-electric range of 41.84 km.
When buying it, customers can expect to receive a federal tax credit of $4,543 or 336,121, in addition to state and local incentives (true for the U.S. market).
It’s a minor update after the 2020 Niro PHEV gets a new front and rear fascia, a new grille, new daytime running lights, fog lights and headlights.
The 2022 Niro PHEV is powered by the same 1.6-liter four-cylinder GDI engine with an electric motor, totaling 139 horsepower.
It has an 8.9 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery that lasts 41 km on a full charge.
In addition to frontal collision warning and blind spot warnings, the LXS package comes with other features from the DriveWise system, such as high beam assist and driver attention monitoring with a lead car warning.
The EX version adds more semi-autonomous technology, such as an enhanced frontal collision system and intelligent cruise control with Stop and Go.
The top-of-the-line EX Premium trim features rear parking alert, highway assist and smart cruise control based on navigation.
Pricing for the Niro PHEV LXS, starts at $30,765 or 2,276,197 rubles. The EX starts at $34,565 or 2,557,346 rubles, and the EX Premium starts at $37,665 or 2,786,705 rubles. These prices are the same as last year.
