Lexus LF-Z will go on sale in 2022.

Lexus LF-Z stylish prototype could be the true future of the brand.

Concept cars are often only hints at what the automaker has to offer.

But in this case, the Japanese premium car maker has confirmed that a production version of the all-electric concept will arrive sometime next year.

What’s more, the report suggests that the final version of the car will retain much of the prototype’s design.

The luxury car maker has previously said it does not expect the car to exit the concept stage.

Details are scarce at the moment, but the automaker said the first models will arrive in 14 months, and is expected to debut in late summer or early fall 2022.

When the concept was unveiled, Lexus said it did not envision the LF-Z could be a production car, but promised that some aspects of the car would be included in a different lineup by 2025.

It looks like someone at the automaker’s headquarters has decided to reverse the maneuver in this statement.

Interior and exterior of Lexus LF-Z

It’s not hard to see why the Lexus LF-Z is one of the most attractive prototypes of recent years.

As big as an SUV but with a sleek hatchback profile, the EV looks like something out of a Blade Runner movie.

The most striking details are the spindle-shaped radiator grille and the electrochromic glass roof.

Almost as impressive is the minimalist interior, where the driver’s seat is similar to the cockpit of a fighter jet, with a helm-style steering wheel and an artificial intelligence infotainment system.

Even less is known about the mechanical side, except for the fact that it will have an all-electric powertrain.

The concept boasts Lexus’ Direct4 all-wheel drive system, which allows different amounts of torque to be directed to each individual wheel and toggle between front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

It should also be equipped with steer-by-wire control technology, which eliminates the need for a mechanical connection through the steering rack, resulting in faster and more precise steering.

Lexus has already pledged to produce at least 10 electrified vehicles by 2025.

Because of this, it’s not hard to imagine that the production LF-Z will be positioned as one of the mainstream offerings, if not its new flagship.
