The Japanese presented a 544-horsepower Lexus LF-Z concept: acceleration to a hundred in 3.0 seconds.

Lexus has presented a large concept liftback LF-Z Electrified, which is a kind of development of the ideas embodied in the LF-30 Electified show car, shown in two thousand nineteen.

Compared to the latter, the novelty turned out to be much calmer, one might even say — almost serial.

Outside, the prototype is notable for the presence of black linings on the wheel arches and sills, which makes it look more crossover.

It also has a narrow head optics and a cap instead of the proprietary cascading grille.

The proportions of the body on the Lexus LF-Z Electrified are quite restrained, and access to the salon is via swing doors, although the latter are electrically operated here.

The interior design is focused on the driver, in front of whom there are several screens at once, including a large head-up display.

The concept also has a steering wheel and an electrochromic glass roof, which can be changed in transparency.

It is known that the on-board electronics of the liftback is designed to help a certain «artificial intelligence», which evaluates and memorizes the driver’s habits.

It is known that the Lexus LF-Z Electrified is built on the basis of the original electric vehicle platform. The liftback measures 4,880 mm in length, while its wheelbase is 2,950 mm.

The model is equipped with a Direct4 transmission — four electric motors drive the car at once (one on each wheel). In total, they give out 544 hp. (700 Nm), powered by a 90 kWh battery.

According to the calculations of the Japanese, the latter should be enough for 600 km of run. An on-board charger with a capacity of 150 kW is designed to replenish the battery.

It is reported that the 2,100-kilogram electric car is capable of accelerating from zero to a hundred in just 3.0 seconds, and its maximum speed is limited to 200 km / h.

The steering of the model is realized by wires, that is, the «steering wheel» has no mechanical connection with the steered wheels.

Previously, Lexus promised to release the first models on the original electric platform by 2025, so if the serial version of the LF-Z Electrified appears, it will not be soon.

Lexus LF-Z Electrified: the second step towards a production electric vehicle.

Since 2005, Lexus has already produced almost two million hybrid cars, but the company is moving slowly towards the production of original electric vehicles: so far in the range there is only the UX 300e SUV, converted from a car with an internal combustion engine.

A step in this direction was taken a year and a half ago, when the unusual Lexus LF-30 Electified concept debuted.

Now another car is presented. Alas, this is also a concept car, but much more close to reality.

The new Lexus LF-Z Electrified is a large liftback (4880mm nose to tail) with crossover touches like black wheel arch liners and sills.

The wheelbase is 2950 mm. The proportions of the body have become more familiar, instead of lifting doors, swing doors are installed (but with an electric drive), and the lighting equipment is made in the traditional style.

The interior is also «calmed», although there is still a stylized driver’s cockpit with a steering wheel, screens around it and a large head-up display.

The onboard electronics are complemented by «artificial intelligence» that assesses the driver’s habits. The electrochromic glass roof can change the degree of transparency.

The concept of the original electromobile platform is generally preserved. The Lexus LF-Z Electrified is claimed to be powered by a Direct4 four-wheel motor drivetrain that produces the same 544 horsepower. and 700 Nm, as in the previous concept.

The estimated battery capacity has been reduced from 110 kW ∙ h to 90 kW ∙ h, this should be enough for 600 km of run.

An electric car weighing 2.1 tons can accelerate to «hundreds» in 3.0 seconds, the maximum speed is 200 km / h.

The power of the on-board charger reaches 150 kW. And the concept car also has a «by wire» steering without mechanical connection of the steering wheel to the steered wheels.

Looking at the two concept Lexus, it might seem like the third iteration of the electric vehicle should be on the conveyor belt.

But we’ll have to wait: production cars on the original electric platform are promised only by 2025. By then, hybrids will account for more than half of the brand’s sales.

To accelerate the development of new models, Lexus has already begun construction on a new Shimoyama Science and Technology Center, adjacent to the Toyota Test Center.

There has already been opened a test track with a length of 5.3 km with a vertical drop of 75 m, which is a miniature Nürburgring, as well as ten additional sections.

The Lexus center is scheduled to open in March 2024.
