Lincoln Nautilus 2023.

New crossover Lincoln Nautilus: from China to America.

General Motors has been supplying Chinese-made cars to the US market for seven years.

Now Ford has gone the same way. The first such model will be the second-generation Lincoln Nautilus crossover.

Its premiere took place at the same time at the Shanghai Motor Show and at a separate event in America.

But if the current Nautilus of the 2017 model is produced in Canada and China, then the new SUV will only have a Chinese registration.

Nautilus retained the five-seat format, but became larger than its predecessor. The wheelbase has been stretched from 2850 to 2900 mm, and the overall length has increased from 4826 to 4908 mm.

There is also a slight increase in width (up to 1952 mm) and height (up to 1717 mm).

Now, in terms of dimensions, this is a 100% classmate of the Lexus RX or Volvo XC90 models.

The base Nautilus has 19-inch wheels, but options include shoes up to 22 inches in diameter.

The Jet Appearance package includes black chrome trim and two-tone exterior paint.

Interestingly, the American and Chinese versions have visual differences, and it’s not just the bumper inserts.

The American version has natural-grip door handles that are combined with a window sill molding, like the late Lincoln Continental sedan.

There is no need to pull them: on the inside of the handles there are buttons for unlocking electromagnetic locks.

The Chinese Nautilus has fashionable retractable door handles, which are located noticeably lower.

The door handles in the cabin are also made differently (in the “American” they are built into the armrests), but otherwise the interior is unified.

And for the Lincoln brand, this is almost a revolution: a single passive screen stretches almost the entire width of the front panel, which shows both instruments, a navigation map, and much more.

To control the entire media system, an 11.1-inch touchscreen display is installed on the center console: there is voice control, 5G communication and remote over-the-air updates.

Like the older Lincolns, warning sounds (for example, when the door is open) are recorded using a symphony orchestra.

Traditionally, a number of buttons on the center console are responsible for controlling the transmission.

And there is also a built-in air freshener with three cartridges for different air fresheners.

In terms of technology, the Lincoln Nautilus retained a simple platform with a transverse engine, albeit in a new version.

Front — McPherson struts, rear — multi-link. The suspension can only be spring, but for a surcharge — with adaptive shock absorbers.

An important new thing concerns the Lincoln BlueCruise autopilot: in the new iteration, it allows you to drive on highways by releasing the steering wheel, and to change lanes, just turn on the turn signal.

The V6 engine is no longer in the range — even for America. The base version has a 2.0 petrol turbo four, which is tuned to 261 hp in China. and 390 Nm, and for the USA it has been derated to 253 hp. and 373 Nm.

The transmission has an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive with a clutch on the rear axle.

A hybrid has also been announced, and without the ability to connect to a power outlet.

It has the same two-liter turbo engine, 136 hp electric motor. and an electromechanical variator. Peak output — 314 hp

Nautilus production at the Changan Ford JV plant in Hangzhou will begin soon, and prices have already been announced in China: petrol crossovers will cost between $48,000 and $55,000.

Hybrids will come later. And in the US, the start of sales is scheduled only for the beginning of 2024.
