SUV Mahindra Thar 2022 visually strongly resembles the Jeep Wrangler.

And the similarity can be traced not only in stylistic solutions, but also in design features: the Indian model, as well as the American one, can be purchased with a removable roof made of metal or soft material.

However, in the future development of the Thar may take a different path.

Independent designers have published renders of an electric version of the Indian model.

The shown car, judging by all appearances, even more adapted to off-road than the actual Thar.

Visually, the novelty looks narrower and shorter than its prototype, but its wheels are noticeably larger. Because of that the ground clearance is increased.

Electric Thar, according to designers’ opinion, will keep its angular body. But due to the change of dimensions, the decorative inset, which replaced the radiator grille, will be smaller and the round headlights will be located closer to each other.

Designers equipped the front bumper with a massive reinforcement, which once again emphasizes the statement made: electric Thar will behave better off-road than the similar car with an internal combustion engine.

The developers also equipped the SUV with additional differential protection.

Whether Mahindra will produce electric Thar is not yet known.

But everything goes to the fact that the Indian manufacturer will create a similar car with a ladder frame and all-wheel drive.

But that won’t happen before 2025. By that date, Mahindra is going to release a line of Born EV electric SUVs.

A little earlier the electric crossovers of the Indian brand will debut.

Indian company Mahindra has declassified the second generation of Thar SUV.

This model is a budget copy of Jeep Wrangler.

Interestingly, if the predecessor repeated the «American» in design and technically, now the similarity between the machines is only external.

Outwardly Mahindra Thar 2022 in many ways repeats mentioned Wrangler, but the Indian variant has slightly different grille and LED lights a little bit lower.

Plus, the plastic dodger put on the model here is more reminiscent of the early Jeep models, rather than the modern Wrangler.

Mahindra Thar’s interior design is also largely copied from its American counterpart, and for the interior decoration developers mainly used washable and wear-resistant materials.

The list of equipment includes an analog instrument panel with an on-board computer screen between the speedometer and tachometer, as well as an advanced multimedia system.

The latter has a 7.0-inch touchscreen display and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus there are USB and AUX ports, climate control, cruise control and power windows.

Technically, the SUV is built on the basis of a new spar frame.

An independent spring suspension on the double wishbone is used now, and the rear axle is saved.

It is reported that the clearance on machines with 18-inch wheels is 226 mm, while the depth of ford is 650 mm.

The model can also boast of high geometric cross-country ability: angles of approach and departure are 42 and 37 degrees, respectively.

The Mahindra Thar can be ordered with either the new 2.0-liter turbocharged 150-horsepower (320 Nm) gasoline engine or the new 2.2-liter turbodiesel 130-horsepower (300 Nm).

These units can work both with a six-speed manual and similar Aisin automatic.

Drive is already in base all-wheel drive with a rigid front axle, a mechanical rear differential lock and a downshift.

Like the Jeep Wrangler, the new Mahindra Thar 2022 will be offered in several configurations.

For example, the car can be ordered with a hard or soft top, as well as with easily removable side doors and folding rear window. But there is no off-road version like Rubicon.

In addition, the long wheelbase four-door version is still in question.

Sales of new items in India scheduled for October 20, and later the geography of the model will be expanded.

According to local journalists, the SUV will cost at least five times cheaper than the original Wrangler, that is no more than 1.2 million rupees (1.17 million rubles).

In addition, there is some extra-budget version in development now for 900,000 rupees (about 876,000 rubles), which will be offered exclusively with 16-inch wheels and a soft top.
