About five years ago, at the Geneva Salon, Maserati pleased with its latest novelty — completely in the style of the brand. For that beauty, they took a shortened platform, one of the company’s latest engines at that time, and it was stated that they were the predecessors of the series from a convertible and a closed compartment with different engine powers.
Unfortunately, so far this statement has not received any physical manifestations from the company from the Italian Modena. True, in 2020 the situation may change radically.
It would seem that such a news to itself — well, there will be a luxury sports coupe one more on the market, and so what? Everything would be fine, but this sports car will be initially a plug-in hybrid. A year later, Alfieri will acquire a fully electric transmission.
The name of the car will get insanely beautiful. By the way, in honor of Alfieri Maserati, one of the five founding brothers of the company. On the occasion of the centenary of the founding of the brand, the model was created by the chief designer Marco Tenkone and exterior designer Giovanni Ribotta.
For the whole project, Lorenzo Ramaciotti, the head of the Fiat-Chrysler design bureau, is personally responsible. And in the lineup, he is destined to change, alas, forever leaving us GranTurismo and GranCabrio.
Appearance and design.
The production version of Alfieri will be based on the same modular GranTurismo MC Stradale platform with an aluminum frame, ready to take both PHEV and e-AWD into its arms. The increase in weight is expected to be only 175 kg, compared with the gasoline version, precisely due to the large-scale use of aluminum.
On the body of the novelty special elements are specially provided, the functionality of which is to increase the aerodynamic characteristics of this car.
The convertible version will be built with a soft roof. In general, the exterior style draws inspiration from the 1954 Maserati A6 GCS: shifted back interior, smooth and very pronounced bends of the wings …

Alfieri Salon is for lovers of beauty and lovers of pretentious finishes, rather than randomly woven displays and gadgets on the principle of “the more, the better.”
This is a classic in its best — true meaning. The materials are selected with taste, the finish is made flawlessly, where it is necessary — a little bit of wood, where necessary — a little bit of chrome. In a word, you cannot erase a word from here, just like from a song. Yes, and adding something will be difficult.
True, modern electronics could not really get in here, but, admire how the designers were able to effectively and unobtrusively enter the same liquid crystal panels here. By the way, the machine switches here in the old fashion — shift paddles. We specially noted this for connoisseurs, if you understand what we are talking about.

The waiting time for the real implementation of the Alfieri project is explained very simply: Maserati had to completely re-equip one of its plants to launch this model in a series.
Whether it will become soplatform with the new electrified SUV, announced as a novelty in 2020-2022, or whether it will share the cart with equally updated to «green» versions of Quattroporte, Levante and Ghibli is still unknown.
