Maserati Levante 2021: a sporty Italian crossover.
Back in 2003, Maserati presented the Kubang concept crossover to the public. With the launch of such a model in the series, the Italians did not rush, and the commercial version of the model debuted only in March 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show.

The new model was named Levante, which means «East» in Italian, and its deliveries to the Russian market began in November 2016.

Exterior

The exterior design of the Maserati Levante was developed by Fiat’s Centro Style specialists.

Naturally, over the years of work on the model from the initial prototype of Kubang, the serial Levant did not get so much.

Perhaps only the body contours and glass lines are reminiscent of the 2003 concept.
In general, the new Maserati Levante 2021 is made in the corporate style of the Italian brand. The crossover has an elongated hood, short body overhangs and an interior shifted to the stern.

Narrow slanting bi-xenon headlights and a massive radiator grille with a branded trident make the SUV’s «face» very aggressive and memorable. Note that the head light is adaptive here, with additional sections that allow you to «peek» around the corner.

There are three air vents behind the front arches, which have long become the hallmark of the brand’s cars.

The sloping roofline and high window line made the Maserati Levante look more dynamic and impetuous, while large rims flaunt in the inflated wheel arches.

At the rear, the crossover received a small spoiler on the tailgate, while the lights are interconnected by an elegant chrome insert.

Salon

The interior of the 2021 Maserati Levante is trimmed with leather and pleases with a very high quality «hand» assembly. Decorative inserts made of aluminum are also ubiquitous in the interior design, and for a surcharge, the client can order finishing with natural wood or carbon fiber.

It is worth noting that the company took the issue of personalizing the interior very seriously, having prepared 25 different interior design options for the model at once.

Directly in front of the driver is a small three-spoke steering wheel, trimmed with high-quality perforated leather. You can change gears both with the transmission selector and using the paddle shifters.

The Maserati Levante’s dashboard looks impressive. On its sides are two deep wells, which contain a speedometer and a tachometer. Between them there is a large display of the on-board computer, providing the driver with a lot of useful information.

An analog clock is located on the center console of the car, as well as a large touchscreen display of the entertainment complex. You can control multimedia functions not only through the screen, but also using a special joystick.

The front seats in the Levante are soft and comfortable with good lateral support. The driver’s seat is off-road and provides excellent visibility.

Between the driver’s and passenger’s seats there is a high transmission tunnel with cup holders and boxes for small things.

The back row is formally designed for three people, but the shape of the pillow is profiled for only two, so the third rider will not be very comfortable here. Note that the headrests of all seats are decorated with branded tridents.

The soundproofing of the cabin is at a fairly high level, however, due to the use of frameless glasses, the whistle of the wind at high speeds cannot be avoided. However, such a sound is not so annoying.

Characteristics

Built on the platform of the Maserati Ghibli all-wheel drive sedan, the Levante coupe-like five-seat crossover reaches 5,003, 2,158 and 1,679 mm in length, width and height, respectively, while the distance between the axles of the SUV is 3,004 millimeters.

The Maserati Levante boasts a fairly spacious trunk of 580 liters, under the floor of which there is a full-fledged stowage space. The second row of seats folds in a 60:40 ratio, allowing the volume of the cargo compartment to be increased to 1,614 liters.

The first off-road vehicle Maserati received an independent multi-link suspension, and the levers are mounted on pneumatic struts with adaptive shock absorbers.

This arrangement allows the car to stick to the road at high speeds, reducing drag, or to rise above the ground, increasing cross-country ability.

Note that the default ground clearance of the model is 184 mm, but pneumatics can increase the ground clearance up to 246 mm. Already in the base, the car has 18-inch wheels with 255/60 tires.

The top-end petrol modification has 19-inch wheels with 265/50 tires at the front and 295/45 tires at the rear. For a surcharge, the car can be ordered with solid 20-inch wheels, which are «shod» in Pirelli PZero rubber.

The wheels are equipped with ventilated disc brakes. In the diesel version of the Levante Diesel, they come with 345 mm discs, and in cars with gasoline engines, they come with 380 mm.

In Russia, the most affordable version of the Maserati Levante is offered with a 3.0-liter diesel engine developing 275 hp. and 600 Nm. Also, an off-road vehicle can be ordered with a gasoline «eight» of the same volume, which is offered in two boost options.

The less powerful variant develops 350 hp. (500 Nm), and the top-end engine on the Levante S is designed for 430 forces and 580 Nm of torque.

All versions of the Italian crossover are offered with an eight-speed automatic ZF and are equipped with an all-wheel drive system. By default, all torque is transmitted to the rear axle, however, on difficult road conditions, the front wheels are also connected.
