The BMW X4 will have a new competitor: the first image of the Mazda CX-50.
According to preliminary data, the coupe-like crossover of the Japanese brand may enter the European market as early as 2022.

Mazda plans to bring the third generation CX-5 crossover to the market in a few years.

As we reported yesterday, it is expected that the SUV will be strikingly different from its predecessors: the Japanese are thinking about turning the CX-5 into a full-fledged premium segment player.

Note that the price tag of the current Mazda CX-5 SUV in Russia ranges from 1,742,000 to 2,648,000 rubles.

The model is included in the TOP-25 of the most demanded models in the country: in January-October, dealers sold 15,434 copies (-13.3%).

The next generation CX-5 is expected to move to a longitudinal powertrain platform, which the new Mazda6 will receive first.

The crossover in the course of the generational change will become noticeably larger compared to the current version: as a result, the CX-5 will move into the mid-size segment.

Earlier it was reported that the «third» crossover will have a version with a coupe-like body. The company positions it as an independent and more high-profile model.

This car will receive a different name — CX-50. Recall that in the spring of 2019, the corresponding trade name — Mazda CX-50 — was included in the European patent register.

There is no detailed information about the future novelty yet. However, the designer of the Spanish edition of motor.es suggested how the coupe-like crossover Mazda CX-50 might look like.

It is assumed that Japanese stylists will continue to use the current corporate style of design, while the front end can be distinguished by more «bold» design, and the hood will be longer.

Judging by the render, the front and rear pillars of the brand’s new items will have a greater slope, which will make the roof more sloping, and the stern — with a smoother bevel.

Recall that in the spring of last year, Mazda announced the development of a fundamentally new platform (it will form the basis of the new Mazda6, CX-5 and, apparently, CX-50).

At the same time, the company spoke about the creation of a family of in-line six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines: they are intended for models based on the new «bogie».

The company has not yet disclosed the characteristics of these motors.

As we noted earlier, it is expected that the new in-line «six» will be hybridized to varying degrees — they will be offered both 48-volt electrodes with an auxiliary starter-generator, and other «socket» combinations. In addition, the CX-50 may have a hybrid four-cylinder engine in the range.

The cross-coupe is likely to be rear-wheel drive. It is assumed that the motors will receive a pair of eight-speed hydromechanical «automatic» of the new generation.

According to the Spaniards, the coupe-like SUV Mazda CX-50 will enter the old world market in 2022.

The BMW X4 is tipped to be his rivals. Note that last year dealers in Europe sold 26 434 Bavarian SUVs, which is 47% more than a year earlier.

From January to October 2020, the figure fell by 34%: the model was sold in a circulation of 14,204 pieces. (The decline is also associated with the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic).

The price of X4 in Europe starts at 50,104 euros, and in the Russian Federation — from 4.09 million rubles.
