Mazda MX-30 2022. Previously, Mazda representatives promised that their legendary rotary engine will return to the motor range of some electric cars.

Specifically, it will be used as a range extender for the MX-30 crossover.

But, according to the latest information, the manufacturer has decided to postpone this venture to a later date.

Recall that the manufacturer from Japan intended to release a new version of the Mazda MX-30 with increased range in the first half of 2022.

At the same time the model was supposed to reach the U.S. market first, and only then in Europe.

However, now the Japanese media reports that the creation of the MX-30 with increased range would require the manufacturer to install a more energy-intensive battery, which would make the crossover unreasonably expensive.

Thus at the moment the company has frozen all plans to produce such version of the vehicle.

Recall that all-electric versions of the Mazda MX-30, available in Europe and Japan, are offered with a small 35.5 kWh battery pack.

It provides the crossover with a range of just over 200 km. In addition, a version with a «soft» hybrid unit is also available on the Japanese market.

But this option would not suit those customers who are committed to 100% electric cars.

It was the idea of creating a vehicle with a rotary engine as a range extender that should have solved both the environmental and range issues, and would have made the crossover more suitable for drivers who need the Mazda MX-30 for long trips.

It’s worth saying that Mazda isn’t going to completely abandon the rotary expander idea and hopes that this unit will find its application in other models.

The main questions now remain: how soon the manufacturer will start working again on this installation of this motor and what cars will be able to get it in the future?

The Mazda MX-30 is the most affordable crossover for lease.

The Japanese Mazda MX-30 2022 model year crossover is the most affordable crossover in the brand’s lineup in terms of rental price.

The price of this vehicle could drop from $33,470 or 2,384,305 rubles to $23,645 or 1,684,401 rubles.

The Mazda MX-30 is disappointing in terms of range. The MX-30 has the lowest range of any all-electric 2022 model sold in the U.S. — the crossover can travel just 160.93 miles on a fully charged battery.

What the MX-30 lacks in terms of range, however, can be made up for by its purchase price. According to overseas car service CarsDirect, the MX-30 is currently the cheapest Mazda to lease — we’re talking about the U.S. market. And that’s even without tax credits and clean-energy rebates.

CarsDirect has learned that the lease agreement for the MX-30 version of the 2022 model year is $279 or 19,875 rubles per month for 36 months with a payment of $2,999 or 213,640 rubles when the lease itself is signed. This equates to an effective monthly cost of $362 or 25,787 rubles, which exceeds the Mazda CX-30’s effective monthly cost of $366 or 26,072 rubles.

The offer expires Nov. 1, CarsDirect reports, and is offered exclusively in California, where the all-electric Mazda will initially be offered through next year.

What’s more, these figures don’t include the $7,500 or R534,278 federal tax credits for electric cars, as well as the $2,000 or R142,474 «clean vehicle» rebate and the $1,500 or R106,855 clean fuel reward that are available in the Golden State (so California is called).

While the base price of the small electric crossover is $33,470 or 2,384,305 rubles, the discounts mentioned above could bring the price down to $23,645 or 1,684,401 rubles.

Whether it would be cheaper to lease the MX-30 or buy it remains to be seen. It’s unclear whether Mazda will give the full federal tax credit of $7,00 or RR 534,278 to people leasing an MX-30.
