In general, the idea of such a modification is not new — such cars have been in service with the Australian army since 2011, but for civilians nothing like this has been done in Mercedes before.
However, for good money, everything is possible — the six-wheeled G63 AMG 6 × 6 will become the second most expensive model in the history of the company after the electric supercar SLS Electric Drive, which is estimated at 416,500 euros.
After transforming a five-door SUV into a four-door pickup truck that sits on huge 37-inch off-road wheels, its dimensions have grown across the board. The length of the Mercedes G63 AMG 6 × 6 is 5,867 mm (1.1 meters more than the standard), the width is 2,111, the height is 2,209, and the ground clearance (clearance) is 460 mm.
Weight increased to 3,775 kg. Unlike the military version, equipped with a 3.0-liter diesel engine and a 5-speed automatic, the new pickup is equipped with a 5.5-liter V8 with twin turbocharging, producing 536 «horses» and a peak torque of 760 Nm, which is transmitted to all wheels by means of 7-band automatic transmission 7G-tronic.
The excellent cross-country ability of the Mercedes G63 AMG 6 × 6 is provided by a system with five differential locks, which can be manually controlled using special buttons in the cabin. In addition, the entry and exit angles of such an SUV are 52 and 54 degrees, respectively.
The manufacturer does not name the dynamic characteristics of the car, but, according to Autoweek, a huge six-wheeled Gelendvagen accelerates from zero to hundreds in about 6.0 seconds, and its maximum speed is limited to 160 km / h.
The declared average fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 22 liters per hundred kilometers.
Annually, the company planned to produce from 20 to 30 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6 × 6 SUVs, the price of each of which is about 350,000 euros. It was possible to buy such a car in Russia, taking orders for a six-wheeled Gelendvagen started at the beginning of two thousand and fourteen.
At the time of sales, its price was 28,660,000 rubles, which is more than three times more expensive than the usual G63 AMG, for which at that time they asked from 9,700,000 rubles.
Later, the company completed the release of this «monster», replacing it with the more compact G 500 4 × 4, which turned out to be somewhat more affordable, but still sold for almost twenty million, although then some dealers were ready to part with such a machine, providing buyers with a significant discount.
Mercedes G63 AMG 6 × 6 on the secondary is in great demand: the price soared to $ 44 million.
Being new, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6 × 6, captured in the photos, was sold in Japan, but in 1919 it changed its registration, being at the disposal of the American company G&K Automotive Conversion from the California city of Santa Ana.
The specialists of this company have finalized the SUV, adapting it to local eco-standards, and now the car is being sold as part of the online auction of the Bring a Trailer portal. In the description of the lot, it is said that the car has a mileage of about 49,000 miles (approximately 79,000 km), that is, the previous owner from Japan used it very actively.
The new owner does not shine such a privilege: although the SUV is adapted to the requirements of American law, the National Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has established a restriction according to which such a car is allowed to drive no more than 2,500 miles per year (just over 4,000 km).
However, judging by the brisk bidding, such a nuance does not scare off potential buyers at all: a few hours before the end of the bidding, the maximum bid reached a solid $ 576,760 (44 million rubles at the current exchange rate).
Note that the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6 × 6 put up for auction has a black body paint and a black and white leather interior with an Alcantara-trimmed ceiling.
The car is powered by a standard 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which works with an AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic, developing 536 hp. and 760 Nm. The model has four-wheel drive with a thrust distribution between the axles in the ratio of 30:40:30.
