Mitsubishi XFC concept car presented: a forerunner of commercial crossover for Asian countries.

Mitsubishi plans to increase its influence in the market of ACEAH (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries, and for this purpose they have presented a concept crossover XFC in Vietnam, which will soon become a «strategically important global model».

In front of us is a compact five-seat crossover, made in a modern brand style «Dynamic Shield». Distinctive features of the latter are T-shaped headlights and lights, widened wheel arches and characteristic chisels on the sides.

Interestingly, the virtual dashboard and multimedia display in the cabin are combined into a single unit.

And there is also a screen at the front pillars — they display a picture from external cameras (the concept does not have side mirrors).

Other interior features include front seats with developed side support. The interior is in light gray color, but with noticeable yellow inserts.

But there is no information about power plant of Mitsubishi XFC Concept yet. Thus the presented crossover has a high ground clearance and a system of choice of driving presets.

A driver can switch between modes Normal, Gravel, Mud, and Wet. Interestingly, the last of them is designed specifically for Asian countries, where tropical downpours are not uncommon.

The Japanese say that the production model under development will provide «a safe, fun and reliable ride in a variety of road and weather conditions.»

The XFC is scheduled to go into production in fiscal year 2023, which means that its appearance in the Asian market will take place between April twenty-third and March twenty-fourth. The model is expected to have both conventional and electric variants.

Mitsubishi has put its badge on the Renault Captur crossover and announced it the day after the introduction of the «new» ASX.

The company will put more effort into this small crossover for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) markets, where it plans to sell a production version of the XFC concept.

The concept car has a design that is entirely Mitsubishi’s, as opposed to the obvious French DNA of the ASX.

It boasts L-shaped LED headlights with louvered daytime running lights mounted at the bottom to create a light signature repeated at the rear, where the taillights have a similar look.

Illuminated 6-angle shapes are located on both ends of the XFC concept, and the side profile shows cameras instead of the usual mirrors.

The interior is in line with the latest trends. Touchscreens are used here and there are still separate climate control controls.

These are mounted on a touch panel on the center console. There is a «floating» gear selector and stop/start button. The flat-bottomed steering wheel has hexagonal touch buttons for the controls.

The front and rear seat sections have contrasting yellow trim, which has also been used for stitching throughout the interior. The XFC concept has a completely flat floor and enough room in the back for three passengers.

Mitsubishi claims this small crossover has best-in-class interior space and plenty of luggage space behind the seats.

The production version will obviously be softened. The shiny lights and side cameras could be gone, as well as the two screens mounted on the edges of the dashboard.

The concept’s 20-inch wheels seem excessive for a small crossover, and the touchscreen controls will be replaced with regular buttons.

Mitsubishi will sell the production model in markets of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, including Vietnam, starting in spring 2023. If the novelty is a commercial success, the model will appear outside ASEAN.
