New Ford Mustang Dark Horse 2024. More horsepower for the pony car: Ford reveals the engine power of the new Mustang.

Ford unveiled the seventh-generation Mustang in September, and it won’t go on sale until the summer of 2023.

Press-service of the «blue oval» didn’t disclose all details about the novelty so customers won’t get bored while waiting; they will be informed in doses as the sales start approaching.

Engine specifications were published this week: the most powerful of the announced versions of the Mustang produces 507 hp, but more powerful versions will appear in the future.

For a detailed description of the new Mustang, we refer you to our September presentation note, but here we briefly remind you that the «seventh» Ford Mustang (factory index S650).

It is, in fact, the result of a comprehensive modernization of the sixth generation sports car (S550).

Key technical features remain the same, but exterior design is significantly updated, and the interior is completely new — with a two-screen dashboard and smart graphics on 3D Unreal Engine.

Engines of the «seventh» Mustang also borrowed from its predecessor, but all of them became more powerful and now it is clear how much more.

Power of the base 2.3-liter «turbo four» EcoBoost petrol engine has grown from 314 to 319 hp and maximum torque hasn’t changed — 475 Nm.

The 4-cylinder motor is now offered only with a 10-speed hydro-mechanical «automatic», as the experience of the last years showed that there is not much demand for this motor with manual transmission.

But those who order Mustang with a 5,0-liter atmospheric V8 Coyote engine have a choice between a 6-speed «manual» and 10-speed «automatic».

The GT variant has boosted its output from 456 hp and 556 Nm to 487 hp and 563 Nm, and if you order the optional exhaust system with a «straight-flow» valve, the sound of the exhaust becomes brighter when this valve is opened, the maximum engine output will increase to 493 hp and 567 Nm.

The transmission is now equipped with an automatic engine speed adjustment system during shifts, which should make acceleration smoother and faster, but the dynamic characteristics of the new Mustang have not yet been published.

The most powerful new Mustang of those already introduced is the Dark Horse version (translates as «dark horse»).

Its V8 Coyote engine is boosted to 507 hp and 567 Nm by installing a modified crankshaft and camshafts, forged connecting rods from the compressor V8 used in last generation Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, and a new control program.

On the Dark Horse version, the engine accelerates to 7,500 rpm.

Besides, the unique features of the Dark Horse version include more durable 6-speed Tremec TR-3160 transmission with titanium gear stick, stiffer suspension, bigger Brembo front disc brakes, elaborated aerodynamic fins and special decorations.

The Dark Horse version is the basis for already prepared race versions of the new Mustang for different competition classes.

Of course, the «seventh» Mustang will have even steeper versions from Shelby and factory special series (for example, Bullitt), but it is unlikely they will be unveiled before sales of the already announced range start.
