The new Nissan Armada will get a V6 instead of a V8 in 2024.

Fuel and emissions requirements are tightening around the world, not just in Europe.

Automakers operating in the United States know this, which is why the new Toyota Sequoia ditched the voracious V8 engine in favor of a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine.

It looks like Nissan will follow the same path with its own next-generation Armada full-size SUV.

The three-row, body-on-frame vehicle will also reportedly ditch the naturally aspirated V8 in favor of a smaller, more efficient six-cylinder engine.

It is possible that the updated Armada will switch to the newly developed twin-turbo V6.

Such a move would follow not only the Sequoia, but also the Ford Expedition, which abandoned the V8 a few years ago.

The second-generation Armada has been around since the 2017 model year and underwent a mid-cycle update for the 2021 model year. Its replacement will apparently arrive at dealers across North America by the end of 2023 as a 2024 model year.

As for power, we don’t necessarily expect a big drop despite using a smaller engine.

The current 5.6-liter V8 makes 400 hp. Adopting forced induction will not only pay dividends in terms of fuel economy, but should also provide more power at the low end, even though the top output may not match the VK56VD.

To that end, the automaker announced plans this week to drop the development of the diesel engine for European markets.

However, Nissan said it will continue to develop gasoline engines where it expects them to remain relevant, including in the United States.

Nikkei Asia reported a few days ago that research and development will mainly continue for trucks and SUVs in the United States.

When it comes to the parameters of the new powertrain that will be used for the Nissan Armada in the future, there is no information about it yet.

Although, they will clearly be inferior to the characteristics of the current unit. Recall that now the SUV is available with a 5.6-liter V8 engine.

At the maximum settings the engine produces up to 400 horsepower.
